Strange...But False

The periscope was invented by Welshman Ewan LLaggoch after he noticed that an owl tied to a stick could spot fieldmice hiding in tree hollows.

If you watch QI or Mythbusters, you'll already have a couple of 1000 of these in your head.

Mobile phones don't cause planes to crash.

They don't ask you to assume the brace position in a plane crash to preserve your dental records for identification.

You can't open your car by getting your partner to press the spare car door button at home and holding your phone to the car.

Bill Gates won't send you $10 for forwarding this email using hotmail.

Their isn't a Mrs Abatcha with $10 million to deposit into your account.

My brother sends me so many of these 'facts' emails. I always go to snopes.com to check them out. They are usually 90% rubbish, with just the first fact or 2 being correct to make people believe the whole lot.

think the jury is still out on this one.
Working for an oil co, they are hot on safety. We had a video of a woman in USA chatting on her phone as she filled up....then suddenly flames where everywhere....all caught on CCTV.

I love Mythbusters. My secret crush is Jamie Hyneman - well, I guess it's not a secret now.

not caused by the mobile though;)

many factors can cause sparks the most likey is man made fibres used for clothing how many have had a crack of their car when getting in or out
this is down static electricity caused by friction in your clothing ;)

Not quite false, but not quite true. A couple of years ago in the UK a study showed that a mobile phone CAN affect the accuracy of some of the navigational equipment, but the effect isn't enough to cause the plane to fly into mountains etc.

Yes, apparently there have been several explosions caused by ladies sliding in and out of their car seats while refuelling. Nylon knickers, they say...

Yes, they said that static sparks causing petrol station fires were twice as likely to be caused by women than men. That is because in the US you can just leave the petrol nozzle running into the petrol tank (you don't have to keep pressing the trigger.)

This gave women the chance to leave it running whilst they remembered they had to get their purse, and then oh, back again to get their discount card, and then oh back again to get their handbag etc. And sliding in and out of the car so often builds up static (nylon panties or not).

When they finally got round to taking the nozzle out, WHOOOSH!

Men on the other hand just stood and held the nozzle anyway, nothing better to do!
