Re: Start a Nurses thread !
Hi Hellen!
I have had a verbal offer for a hospital in Subiaco WA which is'nt actually that far from Fremantle, but like your OH I am awaiting my nurses reg from NMBWA, the are really slow!!! Never mind, I guess I'll just have to enjoy 2 summers this year! As for my post I am to be employed through a sponsorship visa but if you're already going to be there and looking for work I will be more than happy to let you know what it's like where I am and give you any help/info I can on finding a post there or near by. Have you been to Fremantle yet? I visited for a day last year and it seems lovely, excellent fish and chips down by the harbour! Wish you both lots of luck, let me know how you get on. Kelly. |
Re: Start a Nurses thread !
Thanks for your reply Kelly, OH is sponsored on 457 too, when it goes thro.
His WA reg has been delayed by the NMC, no surprise there! He requested a transcript of training in jan, when he checked up in march, on NBWA's request, the NMC said they hadn't received the letter asking for it! They promise its been sent about 2 weeks ago, so we're hoping that was the last doc needed for reg. OH did a reccie last nov, me & kids taking a chance and moving without seeing the place :eek:not practical for us all to holiday there. it would be great to keep in touch, thanks for your offer of help, I'll have a bit of time to settle in before getting a job, might join an agency. i'll stop rambling now! worked a night last night, and only 2 hours kip today! an early night for me, on a long day tomorrow x |
Re: Start a Nurses thread !
Hi Hellen,
There seems to be a lot of nursing agencies in Perth, i'm sure you will have no problem finding work there when you want it! (Wish I could just fast forward a few months!) Anyway, will keep you posted as to any developments, take care, Kelly. |
Re: Start a Nurses thread !
I am a RMN working in an eating disorder unit in Manchester heading for Oz hopefully before the end of the year! Think I had enough of trying to convince people that eating is actually enjoyable  and need a change!;) From my research on eating disorder units it seems as though the Ozzie people do enjoy their food as not come across a lot of eating disorder units in Oz...:sneaky:

Hi thats because mental health in Oz is a tad different from the UK. Eating Disorder units don't exist over here & patients still come into general Psychiatry. I work in a ward where we have 5 beds for ED patients, along with old age & general psychiatry patients  Donna |

Happy to hear she is doing well, it is a complex disease!:( Wow,the scenario must have been very difficult and akward for your wife... |

Very interesting info thanks! What did you think of the care and the unit?

She was about 6 or less weeks from the point of no return. The unit did a good job on our daughter, so cannot fault the staff or the system. Lots of family involvment, which was very very awkward, because my wife has to liase with the mediatating social workers on a weekly basis during the course of her general psychiatric work. |

[QUOTE=vlooi;6161807]First choice is Melbourne but ;)PLEASE TAKE NOTE RMN's : WA recruits RMN's with a £20 000 relocation subsidy if you work in their public psych hospitals for 2 years
Not sure if this was a typo, but WA relocation for psych nurses is $20000, not £'s. (Not trying to be picky, but its a huge difference). OH is in the middle of this process, so its reliable info. HTH Helen |
Re: Start a Nurses thread !
Hi Cherly
Am sure as long as you have your registration in place then finding a job in your area of practice shouldnt take long at all! Good luck with the house by the way and let me know how you're getting on. Take care, Kelly. |

Re: Start a Nurses thread !
Hi Novocastria,
In my last job, my dept ran the 'return to practice' nursing course. The government pulled the funding a while ago, but it will probably be back on the agenda soon! Try your local hospitals and universities to see if they run this course. Anyway, we had a couple of 'returners' who had been out of nursing longer than you, one had qualified 25 years beforehand, worked for a year as a staff nurse and gave up to start a family. It was a huge challenge, but she joined the nurse bank as an auxiliary first to get back into the swing of it, which really helped. If I can help, pm me, Helen x |

Thanks asher looks like it's child health nursing then if they will take me back.
I don't want to be stuck behind the desk for 88% of my time any more. Especially when i'm working in a warmer climate. Seems like I'm going to loose my independence though. |

This Nurses thread has been a great big hit. Hope to hear from more Nurses.
Are there any Nurses here working in Aged Care and from Brisbane? |
Re: Start a Nurses thread !
Hi to all you nurses and midwives,
I am a palliative care nurse and OH is an ICU nurse, currently living and working in Oxford. We are looking to come to Western Australia, probably Perth (Helen, Kelly, Cheryl - love to hear your thoughts/experiences :)) end of the year/beginning next year. We have been in touch with a nursing agency called Vital Recruitment (anyone else had experience of them?) and we are currently applying to the NMBWA for our registration. OH will be working full time but I will need to be part time/agency as we have a 15 month old son to look after. I'm a bit of a newbie to the whole site but finding it brilliantly informative! Any advice would be greatly appreciated! In particular is it best for OH to try and secure a job before applying for a visa? And has anyone any ideas/experience of employers paying for (or at least helping out with) costs of visa/relocation etc? Sorry for all the questions - got so many running through my head! :) Thanks Alex |
Re: Start a Nurses thread !
Hi Alex
Welcome to the forum! We're hoping to get over there later this year, but from our experiences so far, here are my main tips: Apply for your NBWA as son as you have your documents, and certified copies ready, as this can take some time. For my OH, the hospital couldn't proceed with his visa application until the reg was granted. When you apply to the NMC for verification (and transcript if your need it from them) send it by recorded delivery.OH didn't and they 'lost' the requests!! I did and it was actioned in 2 days. We haven't gone through an agency, OH was on a reccie, staying with a mate in Perth and went for an informal visit, and was offered a job. As nurses the process has been quite straight forward so far, and you only need one of you to apply for the visa, I'll be in the same boat as you, hubby working full time as the visa holder, and I'll get kids settled and do 'casual' od see how good self rostering is (if they have it?!) I'll stop rambling now, can tell I haven't posted for a while! Feel free to pm me though, look forward to seeing you there :D Helen (+Dan & 4 kids) |
Re: Start a Nurses thread !
Hi
We plan to arrive in Perth in September. Has anyone had experience of having 'web cam or telephone'interviews? Do you have to do a state registration before you can apply? Sorry to ask dippy questions but I have so much to find out and plan as well as going through normal life. I'm sure you guys are all going through it too-or have been!!! Thanx Cheryl x:thumbup: |

Hi,
I'm a NICU nurse lecturing just now. Hubby is Haemodialysis. Cheers Ginny our names are Mark and Helen. I see that you might be the person i need to talk to or who can advise better than anyone else. Where do i start , well here goes. Helen Had a Kidney Transplant 4yrs ago and at the moment she is doing fine, before that she was on a Dialysis machine for 6 yrs. \we have just been refused a visa , but the ASPC has agreed to give us 70 days to get more information. Only because the MOC looked at the application and seen Kidney Transplant and thought that was it . so the aspc said that moc had refused it on a hyperthetical person. Any how after a couple of letters to ASPC telling them i would take them to court , because the MOC didnt look at it based on an individual but a hyperthetical person and they didnt warn us that they were goint to refuse the application , we threatened to take them to court. Anyway they have given us 70 days to present our case in front of another MOC doctor. Our biggest problem that we can see is the medication, especially the tablet called TACROLIMUS as you know is a very expensive drug. How did you get round it all with your hubby on Dialysis, any help with this would be very much appreciated, does your hubby go to a clinic out there to hook up to a machine. Look forward to speaking to you soon |
Re: Start a Nurses thread !
Thanks Helen for the advice,
My heart sank a bit though when you said about sending the NMC verification stuff recorded delivery - we put our in the post box this morning!! I think I'll probably give a few days then given them a ring to check they've got it? Fingers crossed it makes it there ok! We're having our photocopies certified tomorrow (OH's mum works for solicitors so they'll do it free ) then will send it all off the next day hopefully. Really nice to chat with someone in a similar position to us. Will PM you some time if you don't mind. Take care Alex |
