So why is Oz not what you expected?
 

Hi

We have been contemplating moving over to Oz for the past two years but have never made the plans firm. So many people want to flock there from the UK but why are so many of you saying you want to come back? What so wrong with Oz? :confused:

Nothing :)

Depends on your expectations, outlook on life etc.

Making the move is a big thing as you are moving away from everything that is familiar to you, friends and family etc.

As with everything there will be those who think it is great and those that think it is not so great.

What is the worst thing that can happen if you come over and don't like it? You have to move back but at least you'll know you tried.

I know when we moved so many people said to us that they had considered it when they were younger and now really regretted not giving it a try.

1. It gets colder than I thought!
2. Australian Drivers are worse than British!
3.More Traffic Lights!
4.Cost of Living/House prices a bit higher than hoped.
5. Could probably think of a few more, but then I could come up with loads of negatives about Britain. I know where I would rather be.

We live in a very democratic age. Anyone with an Internet connection can be a newspaper editor. Anyone with enough chutzpah can be a 'celebrity'. Anyone with a PC, a basic music program and an idea can release a record. And anyone with a few grand kicking about can be an expat. The common link between all these things of course is that, just because you *can* do something - doesn't necessarily mean you should.

you might get more replies in the moving back to the Uk forum as they are the ones going back but be warned it can put you off emigrating a bit and makes you realise what a big step you are taking, however if you look in the updates section you can see how many people absolutely love it:D

Okay, serious answer from my observations:

People underestimate the impact that leaving family and friends can have. The homesickness kicks in which to a degree overrides practical reasoning. They lose sight of their goals which are blurred in a mist of emotion.

Some genuinely hit bad times / bad luck on the job front which is after all the mainstay which daily life revolves around.

People do not come open minded and willing to embrace a new culture. They just want to live in little Britain in the sunshine. It's not. They continually look back and compare everything with the previous UK life. We all do that occassionally but these guys are into it big time. They are the proverbial whingeing Poms. Nothing is right or satisfies them.

The last group should never have emigrated in the first place.

Just noticed, but you just did two posts, but the post counter didn't go up from the first to the second - stayed at 18059. I tend to notice things like that-not important I suppose?

Just noticed - it does go up but changes the total on all previous posts - what if I wanted to read post no. 14 - could never find it - how weird.

Every time you post the number goes up. You only have one post count.
That is each post does not retain a number; it's overwritten.
