It is awful that this young lad was sent away without being seen, if he had been treated properly he may still be alive today instead of it being his funeral tomorrow ... Andrew had swine flu with a secondary bacterial infection and his body couldnt fight the flu, he died because he couldnt breathe !!

Some of you have been such judgmental, heartless idiots that havnt got a clue. Dont you think his poor mother will be blaming herself enough already !! I hope that you are never put in the same position to find out.

Absolutely. Mother did her best, system failed them both.

The nurse failed that family and our profession, she should not have have made the decision she did,she need's to have a look at her qualificatons and the limitations involved.

spot on!
really feel for this poor family.
you can just imagine it. a couple of days of a teenager complaining that they are feeling ill and dont want to go to school or do anything. sounds like a typical teen. i doubt if any of us would rush ours to the hospital. im guessing that when he really started to look unwell she decided to take him to the hospital, and she might have made it on time. we will never know. even if the hospital had spotted this they still might not have been able to save the poor kid.

That is so true, I often said to my kids, have a couple of paracetamol and go and lie down for a bit. I would have probably left it for a day or 2 too. Unfortunatly A&E are over stretched and they see alot of unwell but not emergency cases that it can be a bit like the boy who cried wolf and the occasional seriously ill (with symptoms not akin to this) are overlooked. But in the same breath there are nurses that really shouldnt be nurses and have been in the sys so long they forget why they first did the job.

We don't fully know the whole story and circumstances - only what the media has divulged so it's unfair to condemn anyone at this stage. I'm sure all involved are devatated and desparately regretful

Its worth remembering here that the world wide swine flu epidemic may be over... but we are seeing more local cases of it... and it is a killer...

I spent 18 months - 2 years being told there was nothing wrong with me by the health service in the uk BEFORE they discovered a very rare tumour... which was responsible for ALL of my sx.... and could have killed me....

I'm just grateful I had time to be diagnosed properly and didn't have something "fast" that didn't give THEM time...

I certainly dont blame the medical/nursing staff for any of that... or my family... or anyone

common things are very common and rare things are rare... sometimes things get missed....
