So,so sad

I returned to Ireland on December first as my Dad wasnt doing so great. He was in a hospice battling throat cancer.Mum was in a room three rooms away getting respite care as she too was also sick with cancer.Mum went downhill all of a sudden and sadly passed away on Sunday leaving us all in shock. We sat with Dad around his bed arranging her funeral. He was broken hearted loosing Mum.They were married for 51 years. After struggling so much he too passed away last night .We are all heartbroken but knew that they couldnt live without each other. We are now arranging a double funeral for Saturday.RIP Mum and Dad.xx

Oh no. That's absolutely heartbreaking, but at the same time really sweet.

Remember there are loads of us here who've been through the same so if you want to talk we're here. Sending you a big cyber hug. ( )

I just realised that today is the 3rd anniversary of my dad's death, too. :(

Hugs and prayers for you all, what a terrible time for you; at least you have the knowledge that they are together and not suffering apart.

Thats awful, I'm so sorry.

I lost my mum last year and it was the most devastating and difficult time of my life. I can only imagine what you are going through losing both of them at the same time. As others have said, at least they are together again now and they no longer have to suffer that horrible disease.

My heart truly goes out to you and your family. Take care.

Oh Irish, I really feel for you at this time, having just lost my dad. You will be in my thoughts now and on Saturday.
As my sister said in her speech at the funeral..."losing a parent leaves a massive hole in my heart which I will never be able to fill, but dad does live on in his children and the memories of those who knew him..."

When the sharp pain of grief fades, then you will have those memories to comfort you. Sending massive hugs to you. ((((( )))))

Thank you to you all for the sympathies on here and via karma. It means alot. While I am glad my parents are reunited and no longer suffering I am still so sad.Still in shock. As soon as they both realised how sick the other one was they both got worse.I miss them both so much and our family will never be the same. They were super parents.

My heartfelt condolences to you. I'm so sorry for your loss.

It reminds me of my great-aunt and uncle. She passed away suddenly after a quick illness in December of 2003 and he was gone ten months later. I went to stay with him after her funeral and it was heartbreaking to see him just lie in bed and say, "I've lost my best friend. What do I do now?" I stayed with him for a week (I lived in another city and had to return to work), and tried to make sure he was eating. My cousins said in the months that followed, it was like he'd just given up.

They'd been married 57 years.
