We have Kanga Bangers if something sausagey is required ... low in fat and has the added satisfaction of eating a national symbol.
I know they aren't 'fashionable' (and admittedly have a 'unique' taste) but they'll do for me.

for me the French saucisson is king, cheap and easily available at any French supermarket or corner shop, absolutely delicious and leagues ahead of the banger. I agree that snags are appalling things, though things seem to be changing as people are realising that universally crap snags isn't good enough these days. Other favourites are chorizo and chevapchichi
Another favourite sausage of mine is the nurnberger bratwurst
