Snag -v- Banger (the final say)
OK, lets sort this out once and for all!
Flavour:
Banger: Superb, so many different recipes.
Snag: pork, beef or chicken(?) but all tasting like crap.
Legnth
OK the aussie snag might think it has this one in the bag but wait..
I give you the cumberland sausage.
Girth
No contest. The snag doesn't compare.
versatility
Tode in the hole, sausage casserole, bangers n mash... or a snag in a bread roll... perrrrrleasssse
Value for money:
OK quallity costs but the sawdust filled maggot bags that are "snags" cost an arm and a leg. I got 12 home made bangers off the butcher today for the same as i would have paid for 6 pencil dick snags from wollies.
so thats it then the bangers have it.

Both are crap in my eyes and don't get served at my BBQs or dinnertime. Why would anyone want to eat ground up meat topped up with other shite and wrapped in a horrible skin!

They are both vile. Incidentally, there have been instances of butchers both in the UK and Australia being prosecuted for making sausages with TOO MUCH MEAT in them.

I make my own sausages as much as possible, and they're definitely not snags.

Cumberland sausages are not bangers. Bangers are a type of sausage but not all sausages are bangers. Same for snags. Snags are a type of sausage but not all sausages are snags.
Snags and bangers are both at the crap end of the sausage spectrum. No contest.

Maybe it depends on where you come from. I've always thought of bangers as those short fat things (usually from Walls). I've never thought of a cumberland sausage as a banger (too curly). To me snags are those skinny long things that you usually get in a slice of bread.
But that could just be me. However, I wouldn't call the sausages I get from the local butcher, snags; and I've only seen the long skinny things signed as snags.

Although it is fair to say that if you stick them in mash all sausages become bangers.
It's a bit like Fish and Chips in the US.

for me the French saucisson is king, cheap and easily available at any French supermarket or corner shop, absolutely delicious and leagues ahead of the banger. I agree that snags are appalling things, though things seem to be changing as people are realising that universally crap snags isn't good enough these days. Other favourites are chorizo and chevapchichi

Yes but I have always classed snags as shite sausages, I think because when I first came over in the early 80s and someone said we were going to a barbie and taking snags and we went to the supermarket and bought these gross, plastic things. I couldn't relate a banger or a sausage to the things. I think I call them sausages unless they're with mash in which case they become bangers.

I haven't had square sliced sausage for years. I miss my trips to the land of bagpipes, I don't miss the bagpipes though
