Re: SINGAPORE HOTEL.
You can't call it a casino complex! No no no That would insinuate that people go there to gamble, and Singapore does not condone gambling. They're Integrated Resorts.
Nigel, I read your note on the Sheraton on another thread so thanks for updating this one. I know somebody who works for Starwood; they've now moved to Macau but I'll pass your comments on.

Just read this article and thought it might be of interest to some of you wanting to see a slightly more real Singapore than just the glitzy shopping malls of Orchard Road.

That looks like my old house - well, apart from the neon signs for the dodgy KTV lounge. Ohhh, I miss my house.
Note: Whatever the article says, most Hotel 81s and Fragrance Hotels are knocking shops. Cheap but noisy.

Yes but be careful, don't go on price alone. I've bought a few, most have been OK but got caught a couple of times. Some tailors put in less stitches to the inch so seams starts to fall apart. When you go for a fitting and only half the jacket is made up you can see the padding or whatever they call it, it has usually been stitched by hand many times to make it sit just right. There is a shortcut, some tailors will glue instead of stitching, you don't know about it until the first time that it is dry-cleaned, you probably will not want to wear it again after that.
If your husband is average size, many tailors have loads of handmade suits that haven't been collected, they had a deposit paid so they want to recover what it has cost them, you can get some real bargains with these especially if they adjust them for free to fit you.
On hotels, The Singapore Airlines stopover must be about the best bargain in Asia, you'd never be able to arrange anything near it on your own.

Tony - I've never been in the Furama but I do know the location and it's a little bit out of the action but in a tourist hotel belt and also nowhere is far away in Singapore, so you'll be fine.
If you are staying in Phuket you will get suits made there a lot cheaper than you will in Singapore. I don't know anywhere to recommend, sorry, but I do know from my husband having some made in Koh Samui that they will be a much better deal. Actually they were better made than some trousers he had made at a well-known place in Singapore, too.
My advice is to try not to get them made in 24-48 hours if you can help it; you will get a much better suit if you don't rush them and have a couple of fittings. I'll see if my friend who lives in Phuket can recommend anywhere.
I must have been unlucky when I tried to arrange a stopover deal - it worked out cheaper to go through the hotel website. I'd always recommend comparing prices, including on www.asiarooms.com

Typing it bigger and louder than me doesn't make it any different from the article I posted a few posts up.

I know Seasider has said don't go to Newton Circus and in fact Stall 43 there has just been banned for 3 months for selling 8 prawns for S$269 That's about 125 quid. They were large prawns but still...
Anyway I've been going to Newton Circus for about 30 years.
Really like the atmosphere there and if you just buy the cheap and cheerful food like chicken wings, Hokiien prawn mee, nasi goreng, satay,la la, sotong etc then you'll have a great evening. Beer is about 3 quid for a 660ml bottle.
If you want seafood do as Seasider says and take a taxi to East Coast Park.
Although Red House is nowadays not a patch on it's old self and Jumbo is now better although it is personal view.
Otherwise Jumbo on Clark key is good for seafood and the Indonesian place next door has some good food.
That's all.
Too much to talk about, really.

Just out of interest we are staying at Le Grove serviced apartments (32 Orchard Grove Road - next to Shangri-la) and wondered if anyone else had been there? I've paid for it so only positive comments please, please!

Thanks for update on Red House. We'll be there in September but like last year I think we'll go to No Signboard on Geylang Road for old time's sake then walk past our old house on Lorong 24A. Still miss that house - leaks, mould, and all.

Really? Wow. That's one reason I don't recommend tourists go on their own, but if they're being taken there it's another matter.

Re: SINGAPORE HOTEL.
Hi there, if you have a look at google maps and do a search on hotels, you should be able to see where they are in relation to the city. Nowhere is far away in Singapore, but TBH I think most of those you mention are a very average standard, at best. What kind of budget do you have? You could look at www.asiarooms.com.
and those was a sample category of the hotel inculded. so it wont differ to choose any of them it will be 1 night only stopover.
Thanks again and best regards

Re: SINGAPORE HOTEL.
Not sure of it's location but my parents have stayed in the Allson (they flew Singapore and booked the hotel through SIA), they said the hotel was fine.
