Apparently they're allowed to do that nowadays cos we have an excess of water

I haven't been in since the infamous telephone temper tantrum a couple of years ago. I seem to recall that G's bar tab in there was circa $300 bucks that day.
I stuck to whatever was on tap for most of the day & treated myself to a single Kwak, at $50 bucks just for the deposit on the glass it was difficult to enjoy it without worrying someone was going to knock it over I still spent over a $200 for the day, F expensive as a watering hole
Deposit ... On ... Glass?

Kwak comes in one of those fancy "egg timer" type glasses all held in a timber frame. Hence the $50 buck deposit. Here's one:

Reminds me of the Rainbow Room in NYC in 1999. GBP = 1.60 USD roughly.
We had 2 rounds (4 of us), only a couple of cocktails, rest was G&Ts, glass of red etc.
For the pleasure..... $170!
Thats around 15 quid a drink in 1999!
And to add insult to injury the guy "managing" the lift wanted a tip for pressing the "request" button. He was disappointed that night!
Great views though.

I guess they don't have kids, maybe that's why or maybe everyone is sky high in debt and don't care.
You're not wrong about The Breakwater. The old Breakwater was a nice family place with fairly reasonably priced beer. The new one is a sterile, anal retentive, pretentious excuse for a pub, with pub grub like, 'Artichoke and Camembert Pizza'...!!! FFS...!!! Last year I took my uncle from Scotland in there for a pint while the girls were looking at the shops. I had a pint of Little Creatures and he had a pint of Heineken... $22.50...!! Jesus Christ!

If you know where to look in Perth you can get a decent pint in a very nice pub for $7. In social / footy clubs you can get one for $6, so that just shows you how much we are being blatantly ripped off at the other places.

I paid about $14 for 500ml of German Weissbeer at the Hofbrauhaus restaurant in Melbourne. It was some special brand though, not one you can get in bottles from liquor stores.

You can't pay out of principle, you have to pay out of capital.

Pints here in the city are only $6 I've noticed everything costs a bit more in the northern burbs, and I quite like breakwater since discovering it last week but then again I'm a bit of a poser
