shipping of tools to Melbourne
 

Hi all,
Can anyone give me any advise on taking my tools over to Melbourne with me, or would i be cheaper to replace them when i get there, Any idea of costs of shipping, size and weight of boxes, custom regulation etc, etc and how long for them to get there, Any advise, website links or information would be very useful,

whatever you do, make a note of exactly what your shipping.
My mate had some great gear and a lot of it went missing en-route

If you are only going to flog them off for next too nothing in the UK why not throw them in the container (its not costing extra by weight).

As other poster suggests ensure they are insured and accounted for on shipping details.

Hi there, my dilemma is that we are not shipping a cointainer with furniture possible just some treasured things later after we settle,(moving to a fully rented property) so I've made a list of all tools i have and priced the cost of replacing my tools here in th UK and priced buying the the same tools (similiar make and quality)in Oz and it rough works out the same. That converting $2 to the pound as a guide, problem being is you get a lot less when selling the ones you have for a lot less than they are worth, and never guarnteed you sell them all anyway.
I dont think i will need all my tools to get started in a job, could get away with replacing these when i get there, but have been build my tool collection up over the years and won't like to sort of just give them up, cause in a way i know i will take years again to replace them , this must just be a guy thing :lol:. I m still tracking the costs of shipping etc will post anything that i find, :thumbup: Any advise welcome ;)

Ment to add that i am a cabinetmaker /carpenter and will be wanting to ship power tools, such as crosscut saw, small table saw, cordless drills and several other hand power tools in there cases,along with several toolboxes which are full of hand tools, no idea of weight or m2 yet

I would bring them with you, average quality tools are cheap here, but quality tools are very expensive.


I would ship them over it can't cost too much.

Send them on a shared container - the cost is higher per cm3 than sole use containers but its gona be worth it after you throw a few other things in.
Just remember to ensure the tools are clean (you sound like you would be on top of that already but thought I would mention for wider audience)

You will probably be surprised on how much "cash" it takes to repurchase all those tools you have put together over a few years. Add to that the hassle and agro of trancing around looking for different brand names so you don't end up with junk.

Throw in some clothes suitcases in the container and it makes the trip over less stressful.
