Can't remember how big ours is, maybe 8 x 4. It's not big enough though. HE wishes we'd leveled a bigger pad and had a larger one but it's about half as big again as his old one so he can quit complaining. He has actually and is in the process of flattening a bit behind it to put a smaller shed just for the ride on etc.

Priceless !!!

Man after my own heart !!

3 basic principles to sheds.

You need a shed to organise stuff

You get a shed and fill it with junk, is disorganised and is un-navigable even by tibetan rats with IR headsets on !

You need another shed, to put your junk in..

Its a viscous circle INNIT

Not him outdoors. He's vaguely anal about arranging stuff. I don't go down there very often. He swears he's sprayed but I don't believe him and if one creature with more than 4 legs shows its face, he'll (hubby) never get another cuppa

I cant understand why people buy residential blocks and then stick these huge tin monstrosities on them.... we have a huge one next to us (known as "the cow shed") and now the people out the back are putting one up... the one next door takes up most of the garden, and they've got a dog, rotty cross, that now has nowhere to run around when it's left alone all day.

I am wondering, when we do our citizenship ceremony perhaps we should be given a large dog that barks all day and an enormous shed, much more Australian than a native plant.

Boy, felt good to get that off my chest
One way around that is to get at least 1 acre. Anything less would be a tad silly.

Remember though that sheds do need to be big enough to house machinery or workshops plus projects. Most people will actually do something in them. Not everyone wants the upkeep of a lawn (esp in drought) and some people have livilihoods or interests that necessitate as big a shed as they can get.

And too big is better than too small.

Australians seem to favour sheds over attic or roof storage too.

metres? That is not a bad size. Feet - obviously tiny.

I've worked out with workbench, timber collecton, dust extraction, to save nothing of entertainment compressors, tools, gluing up area, etc you do soon run of space, and need extra spaces for rideons, slashers etc. I use a single garage and its too small. MrsB has a seperate shed for gardening.

Equipment always expands to fill available space.

The Shed is the one place where you can stand and stare and conduct activities of a blokely nature without being done for it.

Top tip - when outside the environs of the shed always conduct yourself in a brisque and workmanlike manner - look busy - carry a shifter. Otherwise there is always the danger that your significant other could commission you to undertake a task of an unpleasant nature.

Depends on the significant other I guess. Him outdoors says he's off to the shed. Once in a while either me or tiddler takes down a drink and we leave him to it. He does the unpleasant tasks because he has no fear. He was a firefighter I let him do nice stuff as well though because I'm good like that

It's not just an Oz thing, I think, it may be an Irish thing too....

When we stayed with OH's family in County Waterford, dad-in-law & OH spent many happy hours drooling over the new TWO STOREY shed. The house was a wreck & in need of everything: kitchen, bathroom, plaster on the walls, but first priority was to get this huge green metal thing up in the garden.

Wierd.

Well, hopefully in the next few years we'll be able to afford to move onto an acre block, have a bit more space between us and the neighbours.

No drought here...

And next door have nothing to do with theirs, he's not even into DIY so not as if he needs somewhere to store equipment (the father in law did all the DIY in their house before they moved in) and they cant get a boat or anything down the side to store in it.

While we are on the subject (sort of), why do people have these big dogs when they work all day so they just piss the neighbours off with their constant barking all day?
