Finally got power back yeahhh!!!! So delighted to have the A/C back. How bloody good are Ergon!! Well done to all the workies who are doing a great job up here getting everything sorted!

Our house wasn't damaged, we lost a few trees from the garden, but gained a few too The street is a riot outside, all the trees along the kerb have came up roots and all! But seems ppl who live in the neighbourhood and have a chain saw are just turning up and helping out by cutting the trees to managable sizes for the council guys who arn't far behind them with a big shredding machine! Am in awe of just how organised the council have been!

Oh and well done to the guys at the local radio station, who were evacuated from the radio station so they just moved all the gear to one of their houses!! They really kept us going all night after the power went.

Just glad everyone was/is safe!

We have delightful neighbours on one side, they kindly threw the branches which may or may not have come from our tree into our garden. I know technically they can do that but to me it seemed somewhat shitty in the circumstances even if they were our branches.

Thats really shitty....we are obviously very lucky where we are, real feeling of us all being in it together, to the point that my neighbour went round the entire close ensuring everyone was ok pre and post Yasi....feel very lucky now. Sorry your neighbours are like that, you don't need it at a time like this.

In all honesty, it's fairly typical of how they are and I couldn't really expect that they would change just because of what has happened. Perhaps things might have been different had the extent of the damage been greater, but Cairns really did dodge the bullet in the main. All we've had is a bit of garden clearance to do and mopping out the carport/storage area as it kept flooding when the gutters got blocked by garden debris. We were lucky and are fully aware and appreciative of that fact

No matter how bad or not the situation turned out, you would hope for neighbours to all help. I never had it in the UK, neighbours stuck to themselves, here in Townsville I can honestly say I have never lived next to such lovely neighbours...they actually think of us as family and came to our citizenship.
I know that neighbours can literally make life hell, I am just lucky that we are where we are. Maybe you will get nice ones next time around.
Glad you are all ok up there though, was definitely a different story down here.

Still amazed I got out of that one unscathed - other than about 50 sandfly bites. We evacuated Cairns marina on our boat to the mangroves on tuesday morning and tied up, lashed everything down, threw out all our anchors. By wednesday morning when we got the meteorological reports on the vhf that it was upgraded to a high category 5 with an estimated 5 metre storm surge coming straight at us I admit I shed a few tears and the contents of my stomach! (that storm surge would lift us right out of the mangrove into the path of the wind dumping us god knows where). By then the coast guard and emergency services had all off-lined. People on their boats were maydaying for help they were so desperate to get out of there. Some other panicked yachties picked us up in their tinny boat (howling cat in my ruck sack) and we dashed through the waves to shore like the last chopper out of Saigon. Luckily enough some chap we didn't know from Adam invited us to his gaff in Redlynch, nestled in a mountain range, where we drank whisky and hid in the bathroom for the night. All's well that ends well but I feel extremely sorry for the people who suffered the terrifying 300km per hour winds and have lost property.....

So glad that all of you seem to have survived unscathed, specially Ms Turban as some of the stories of people who fled on boats have been a bit hair-raising

Pic below is a sat pic of the weather that was going across Victoria this morning - so it does look like its all part of the Yasi system, cloud being pulled into the decaying Tropical Low. I'll be totally honest and say that beyond the fact our cyclone outlook for the next three days is Very Low in all directions, I have no real idea on the future weather.
BoM NSW on a very quick glance seems to be sunshine/showers for a while, apart from the flood warning areas it seems fairly peaceful.
Vic has ha d areal pounding and again is still in water in many places, but also looks peaceful from tomorrow - thats a very brief cursory glance though

Weatherzone forums for the two States - you'll have to plough through the addicts but they might be good to dip into

NSW - http://forum.weatherzone.com.au/ubbt...hp/forums/23/1

VIC - http://forum.weatherzone.com.au/ubbt...hp/forums/24/1

If I get a chance to look further later I will, but......2 months of the season left up here and there are Lows circling like vultures out in the Pacific............
