Well I've given up on Birthday BBQs cos it seems to pee down every Nov 18th! Maybe I'll have better luck in Melbourne!??

After taking a little video of the devastation at the Moggill Ferry (which I'd post somewhere but don't know how), very leisurely drive to Indooroo this morning. As I said, round the back at Pinjarra Hills is looking quite lovely today, very sparkly. Windows down, shirt sleeves rolled up, singing along to the radio kind of day thus far.:thumbsup:

OMG what a shift. I know I have good mates in the Gap that nearly lost their house last night - and I think they have lost their car, last seen floating away.
having sat at work watching calls coming through to the SES in their hundreds, and seeing people with tarps caving in under pressure of water, people with water rising ound their feet, I feel so lucky to just be tired from a shift and not from fighting to save my home.

Please please watch the forecasts, the next few days/nights could be as bad with sudden storms, and more prolonged rain is possible next week. Some rivers are rising very very fast, so beware and please don't take any chances.

Yes it is indeed very green and cheerful out there today :cool: You can almost hear the plants growing!

We are in Gaven (near Pac Pines) and last night was rather spectacular!! The whole house (flimsy Queenslander :unsure:) rocked with the thunder at least 3 times. I gave in around 11pm when a close lightening bolt set off all the electrical stuff (rebooted the computer, rang the phone, interrupted the dishwasher etc) I even felt the static in the air :ohmy:I got '6 year old kid' kind of spooked :rofl: and quickly clambered (to relative safety lol!) into bed next to Hubby.

I find electricity really scary at times....it must of been REALLY bad as even the dog was scared :D Bit ironic really as I'm married to an electrician :wub:

Nature always seems more powerful and evident here don't you think?

My daughter is going on an outdoor camp on Saturday night with Guides, to Currumbin. Guides say it is still on. Any idea of the forecast for that area ?

I find it really heartening how everyone pulls together in times of crisis here...neighbours still look out for each other too.

The SES received more than 10,000 calls overnight as the severe storms swept through the region, causing the most problems at Ipswich and in Brisbane' west and north.

The weather bureau said rain fell at a pace of 100mm an hour in some parts.

And the residents in Brisbane' northwest devastated by Sunday night' storm have been hit again, with torrential rain hitting areas such as The Gap.

The weather is pushing emergency volunteers to breaking point as they try to cope with one of the worst weeks of weather in the region in recent memory.

But they ARE coping, thats the thing, and they keep on coping - I take my hat off to them.

ICB Tunnel, and Kedron Brook. One of the Firies that came into work at 2.30 this morning to activate the coordination centre helped the people to escape from the vehicles in the tunnel on his way in. He was stunned by the suddenness of the water rise.

Thanks :o though it does make me feel very humble when I think I sit in the office helping with the coordination (and running like a headless chicken at times!) while they are out risking their lives.

Has its funny sides though, thinking of last night at 1.30am when the lights went out and I was trying to power up a laptop on an aircard in the dark - and 6.30 this morning as I emerged from the Centre into the corridor looking like I hadn't slept for a week and clutching a grubby coffee mug and walked straight into Anna Bligh, who (of course) looked immaculate even at that time of day, and who was accompanied by a film crew! One hasty retreat was beaten!!!!:lol:
