http://news.stv.tv/politics/251983-r...in-first-year/ http://www.euanmearns.com/wp-content...ction_OPEX.png Oil production is below 1Mbpd and falling at ~12% pa (and rising). Keeping the old infrastructure running costs money, and thus the opex keeps going upward with inflation and failures. At a point it becomes uneconomic to keep a field infrastructure operational, and it shuts down, pushing that decline rate even higher - until effectively the north sea shuts down. Oh, and there's the cost of shutdown and clean up that someone has to pay. Tell me again about how scotland is rich in oil? Why did you think Cameron was happy to see a referendum? If you are generous, the scots have 10 years left, of decreasing revenues, then are likely to be left with chunks of the cleanup costs. |

Re: Scotland and Independance
As with Wales, I'd expect the push for Independence is more to do with national pride and culture rather than Pounds and Pence. After all, Wales was basically devolved into a semi-autonomous state at the same time as their money generating industries of Coal and Steel production were on the way out.
Edit: should have said: devolution was started and then ramped up at the same time as.... I worked in the Welsh Office at the time, early 70s, and coal and steel were still fairly big but clearly in steep decline. However the Welsh Language and culture were enjoying a revival and this seemed at the time to be the main driver. |

A lot of people here seem to talk like the Scots have made their mind up, the vote will be a yes and they seem to take it a bit personally. What opinion polls have they been looking at?? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottis...dum,_2014#2013 |
Re: Scotland and Independance
The funny thing is. Scotland would get very little revenue from oil / gas.
Most production is in international waters and the majority of it is landed in Hull. The small amount that is in what would be scottish waters is around shetland and shetland are talking about independence from Scotland |
Re: Scotland and Independance
Go for it Scotland! Do it, vote yes! Please.
England would be a lot better off then! The fact that the Barnett Formula has never been revised or altered means that we are now in this current situation. The Scots get a Parliament, the Welsh get a Parliament (Assembly), but where is the English Parliament????? Exactly. Independence for England please, and an end to all this yoo-kay nonsense. We'd all be a lot better off on our own. Vote Alex Salmond. I would, if I could. |
