hi all i know there is probably lots of previous threads on schools but i wondered about the australian equivilant to GCSES? i understand they dont have them and have something else instead.is it the same age they take these? i dont really understand the education system yet.my two older children are 11 and 12 and are well above the national average. just trying to understand there educational opportunities. so far i have read great things about the schools in oz. were looking to live in the redcliffe area of brisbane. anyone with any thoughts on good state high schools there? any primary schools for when my 2 year old is older. many thanks:)

GCSEs don't mean anything over there. A UK Qualification they do accept is the A/AS levels, which will be the equvilient to their HCE.
If your children haven't started the GCSEs, or just started high school then now would be a good time to move over so they can learn what they need better. |

As long as your kids are here in time to start year 11 so that they can complete the final two years of school then they will be OK. In general, kids here start year 11 either as they have just turned 16 or are just about to turn 16. Their year 12 assessment then gives them the score for uni if that is what they want to do.
They will also probably be in different year levels when they get here - Australia cant even get the year levels and age requirements for them consistent from state to state so moving countries is a whole different ball game. In Queensland, kids dont start HS until year 8 and children start school at a different age as well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_in_Australia may help. |
