Same sex marriage ban in Australia

Re: Same sex marriage ban in Australia
I signed the petition to keep Ali Choudhry from being deported - he has been with his Queensland partner for four years and was to be sent to Pakistan (where apparently he has never actually lived) because he and his partners relationship is not recognised here. Fortunately I received an email yesterday to say that his deportation has been put on hold and he's been granted another temporary visa. Full story below.

All couples have to do this, sexuality does not come into it and there should be no relaxation of the rules because he is gay or from Pakistan or has gone to the papers. If he is genuinely worried about persecution, then advertising his preferences across the global press is a strange choice.

Yeah, much of the case is a distortion of the facts.

This is a half story. The immigration system recognises same sex relationships and so if he did not get his visa it is because he did not meet the criteria or did not provide enough evidence.

For starters he's broken the rules of other visas, then he overstayed, and to apply onshore for a partner visa one has to be here lawflly- he wasn't. He's not just bent the rules, he's broken them all round. Anyone else would be deported, why shouldn't he?
