Sales

Something that occured to me when I went back to the UK at Xmas was the difference in shop sales between Aus and UK. Generally, about the best you will get in Aus for the best sales are around 30-40% (I am not counting the likes of Rugz a million who do 70% fake-sales everyday), while in the UK in the Boxing Day sales you will regularly see 70-80% off things.
This ability to massively discount would suggest that the UK is just overpriced from the start allowing them to offer such large discounts, but in comparison to Aus I actually think most things are cheaper these days.
So which is it? Are both countries expensive compared to other countries and Aus is just taking its people for a ride?
I know from my previous job that for laptops and most IT products that retailers are generally only making a max of 20%, so I can understand not being able to do much more there, but the plasma and LCD TV discounts are sh!thouse in comparison to the UK.

Re: Sales

More available money = less need to discount

Less available money to spend = more need to discount

Does this mean that Australians have more disposable money to spend ?

Just not enough competition in Oz. Way more companies willing to do deals in the UK, whereas here they think you should name your children after them for giving a you a 10% discount...
