That's a good point. Most airlines turn the system off 30mins before landing but QF keep it running until touchdown.

I think most major carriers are very safe to fly with - if they weren't they would be out of business.

A guy at work flew Finnair business class to Europe a few months ago and he said that they were good. They have very good prices on BC out of Bangkok.

The "turn your electronic device thing off" gets me too. If it was that detrimental to air travel, they would make you hand all electronic devices in at the gate. I can't recall the amount of times my mobile has turned itself on in my pocket by me leaning against the arm rest or something. Text messages start beeping as we come into land. I've not been in a serious plane crash yet - touching wood of course.

Starting to think that way. It's wasted effort.

There was actually an incident with a QF 747 which banked inflight without pilot command. The ATSB suspected a passenger using a wireless mouse was to blame!

How's Aeroflot these days? I remember reading a travel writer's reflections on his journey with them back in the 90s, including the usual load your own luggage on the plane etc. He remarked that they were all standing in line on the tarmac, getting ready to board, and then passengers just took off running. Turns out the fuel guy had driven up with a lit cigarette hanging out of his mouth.

It's a reasonable enough topic for discussion...because it's often stated that QF is the safest airline...something to do with Rainman...but statistically some other airlines do have a lower rate of incidents. QF is of course still a very safe airline to fly with.
It just seems to the same few that are apparently very insecure about something, its quite funny but must be tedious for others.
