Relocating to Sydney

Hi all and a happy new year! we are relocating from the U.K. to Sydney for my partners job. He will be based central Sydney and we are looking for a family friendly area to live (2 kids and a dog). Weâ€™ve been looking at Maroubra area or northern beaches - any recommendations or advice would be appreciated ðŸ˜Š

Maroubra is OK, very family friendly, again its a bus ride but not so bad.

If you can, go further north of Marourba, say Coogee, Clovelly, Bronte. They are more expensive for housing because they are a bit nicer and closer to the city.

Ditto Northern beaches - commute can be tiresome, housing extremely expensive, the locals can be insular depending what suburb you are in. Maroubra is a transitioning area - from government housing to a more expensive suburb with nice houses and professionals etc.It is a long bus ride into CBD and the Bondi/Coogee suburbs are closer/a lot of UK expats / but housing expensive. Inner city is bohemian/trendy/FAB - Surry Hills, Glebe, Kings Cross - can walk or ride a bike to CBD. All apartment living but beautiful parks nearby. The family suburbs are found in Hills District, Sutherland Shire, St. George District and Northern Suburbs. Outer West is cheaper, well serviced by trains (trains are best public transport but they are not in every suburb) housing is cheaper. Happy Travels

If you're on a temporary visa you'll be paying about $5kpa each post child. Be sure to factor that into your budget. Also temporary visa holders aren't necessarily guaranteed a place in the local school if its oversubscribed.
