Default Reindeer......how do they get through the winter?

.....................they eat magic mushrooms and dream of flying

Scientist Andrew Haynes says reindeer deliberately seek out the mind-bending fungi
to escape the monotony of dreary, long winters.
Writing in the respected Pharmaceutical Journal, Haynes said: "They have a desire to experience altered states of consciousness."
"For humans a common side-effect of mushrooms is the feeling of flying, so it's interesting the legend about Santa's reindeer is they can fly," he continued.
Haynes also said that in some parts of the world herdsmen drink reindeer urine to get high themselves.

Apparently the reindeer particularly like the mushrooms
with the white-spotted red cap that garden gnomes like to sit on, so look out any gnomes in the vicinity, you may be part of a reindeer's lunch

Fly Agaric (the red ones with spots) are very toxic to people but extremely hallucinogenic - but presumably less toxic once the active ingredient has passed through a reindeer or two. So reindeer pish could catch on...........

I always just thought reindeer were magic once they'd been sprinkled with special fairy dust and could do anything (including flying, talking, and making special pish for people to get wasted on!)

SIL sent this

According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December.

Female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the spring. Therefore, according to EVERY historical rendition depicting Santa's reindeer, EVERY single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a girl.

We should've known...

ONLY women would be able to drag a fat-@rse man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost.

A friend of mine doing wildlife research on Herschel Island in the Arctic 30 years ago found a perfect little Amanita Mescaria mushroom growing on a spot of bare ground in the midst of a world of snow - that is almost magic in itself. I'm not surprised the reindeer eat them as animals in a harsh environment can't pass up any food source. One mad art professor here who had extensive experience with mushrooms in South America had someone collect local Amanitas for him and took tiny, ever increasing doses until he was eating a big tablespoon full twice a day - likely a fatal amount had he not developed a tolerance. But like I said, he was mad. And experienced.
