Default Really strange question about australian bank accounts

This is going to sound odd, but does anyone know if there is a standard format for bank account numbers in Australia, I know the BSB is set but are the actual account numbers a fixed length like they are are in England eg 8 numbers or does it vary between banks/states?

Not sure, let me know your account number and PIN and I'll tell you if it's the same length as mine.

Should of known better than to ask a silly question!
Its just I am trying to write up something for work, and can't find out if there is a standard format or not. I think it may be 9 digits with the last as a check digit, but dont know if this is bank specific or not. I know it sounds crazy!

I just had a look at my bank account for the people I sometimes send money to.

All BSBs were 6 digits. Account numbers were 7,8 or 9 digits long; most being 9 digits
