DOOM N GLOOM. Jesus peeps, give us a break. If you have a job at present, sit tight and ride it out because the predictions are by the start of the tax year (Jun - July) we should then be on an upward curve. If the stock market rises, then things are getting better and right now the stock market has plateaued. ie. We are over the worst and are turning the corner so good luck to all and for any doubters out there, get your ass over and you will not regret it.

Got to admit that the skeptics amongst us, including myself, think they are using the downturn as an excuse to bring in some shift changes and penalty payment cuts. They really have stopped employing though, and thats despite staff shortages, just means we get even more bloody overtime./QUOTE]
I've suspected this for a while; I think for some companies (obviously not all!), this economic mess is actually a bit of a Godsend.

I think you need to take a breather actually. As has been said many people on here - myself included -are just grateful to have a job. I'm extra lucky as I love my job, but I don't expect to be paid vast amounts for it. I don't know quite what you mean by "if we arent making 20% a year we are poor" but don't assume that every Brit is just out for as much as they can get, any more than every Aussie is.

At the end of the day you all wanted to move to Oz for a change of lifestyle, not everything in this life is about money! This country will never be as bad as the UK in many aspects, not just jobs. We have a life here that the UK will never have so if you are thinking twice about moving here, then DON'T MOVE here!! We only want people in this country who will embrace our lifestyle, be proud to fly the Aussie flag and give back to this great nation!!

A lot of us moved here because our partners are Australians, nothing to do with lifestyle, and a lot of us have aims in lfe other than money.
As for whether its as bad or good as lifer int he UK, everyone has their own opinions - don't presume everyone thinks the way you do
