Random jelly question

Does anyone know if you can buy blocks of pre-set jelly cubes as opposed to crystals, over here in Aus, like you can in the UK? :)

I don't think you can, been looking for 9 years...used to love sneaking one of those blocks out the pantry when nobody was looking when I was younger...

Thought as much, have never seen any either but was hoping they might have sneaked on the market somewhere. I used to love eating it raw too, bit of a treat back in the day...:D

Hadn't thought of that, suppose that puts them in the luxury goods bracket now! :frown:

I think the round trip from Adelaide would definitely elevate jelly from council house status to a dessert for the nouveau riche.

Not pudding? For the upper echelons fallen on hard times?

You can buy it in the Aussie shops here. I never buy the crystals, doesn't seem quite right somehow:o. I've also got some jelly cubes lurking in my pantry, that if my youngest hasn't sneaked in and chomped on it:frown:.

Which supermarket in which State? I've not managed to get it in Brisbane except once in Aldi when they had a British week on. Be great if I could track some down at normal prices :)

MMMMMMmmmmmm..........

Loved eating jelly cubes- my mum said my nails would grow- an old wife's tale, or is there some truth in it?? My nails used to be long and strong, but here in Aus they are short and brittle.

Would you like me to post some over? British foods and other items are more readily available here now in places like IGA and Woolworths. I have recently been buying Heinz Cream of Tomato soup and other types. Where else but in Little Britain, otherwise known as the Wild West:sneaky:.

 Far more civilised than Brisbane!
Thanks heaps for the offer, but I'm actually in the UK at present and jelly is one of the things I have stocked up on :)

Not sure where the OP is based though, which is why I asked which shops are now stocking the cubes :)

Thank you both for your kind offers and yes I am in Adelaide, but I actually needed about a dozen blocks for a Science lesson on friction. Was going to teach it next week but am currently rethinking that idea. :frown:

My daughter's visiting the UK in January so will send her back with a suitcase just for jelly. Wonder what customs will make of that one!

Sounds much more interesting than when I was in school :)

Edit - how about just making a jelly in an ice cube tray and using those?

Thought about that, but it wouldn't be as strong as in its raw state. I need jelly with muscles.

Think I've just about ditched that plan now, moving onto modelling clay, far more accessible.:)

Is this at Super Sisters Iga in Joondalup.I went in there once and couldn't believe the English variety you could get.

Yes, saw Cream of Tomato soup there a few months ago and stocked up on a few jars. Then saw it at IGA Carine Glades, plus other varieties such as Leek & Potato, Cream of Mushroom and a family-sized Vegetable soup. More exotic varieties of Baxters too, Broccoli & Stilton, Cream of Asparagus, but the Lobster Bisque was disgusting:ohmy:. Handy to have in the cupboard between batches of home-made. Heinz Cream of Tomato is one of my comfort foods, so can eat it most of the year, though I think not in summer in Perth. Also treated ourselves to Walkers Roast Chicken crisps and 2 flavours of Hula Hoops:thumbsup:. I've also found various Fentimans soft drinks in Subiaco, but not dandelion & burdock - I must email the importer about that. A lot more UK cheeses too, including a proper Cheddar, Wensleydale & Cranberry, Lancashire with some fruit (can't remember type), Sage Derby, Red Windsor, Double Gloucester with Chives and Huntsman. Not foods I'd buy all the time, but nice to see more British products available here. Love the new Carr's flatbreads.

Must be an IGA thing, ours just got an English section and its really good, not as good as th one in Joondaloop but I do check it every time I go in and usually pick something up, I was very happy to get Branston Sandwich pickle.
