Quick question

Hi all.

I'm currently a British citizen who is set to graduate from uni this summer and then hopefully migrate to Australia.

A lot of people have told me that if I go expat by living there for 7 years or more (correct?) all my debts will be terminated. Is this true?

Cheers.

Re: Quick question

I believe this is relating to the Student Loan (not credit card or personal loans of other kinds).
If so, from memory the paperwork states that it does get cancelled if the ex-student lives abroad for a period of time (7 yrs sounds familiar).

Doesn't state student loan though, just asks about debt. There is no truth to the statement that "all debts are cancelled after 7 years" - depends on the individual lender and the debt concerned.

Wow, I ask a simple question and get slated by a load of fogies who spend too much time on an internet forum.

Thankyou for those people who actually tried to help :) sorry I should have stated I meant student debts aka student loans, and yes they do terminate after going expat.

Bye!

Well, what do you expect when you practically state that you are going to ripoff the system. It's a pity that they don't change the rules so plonkers like you get hit with a bad credit rating if you go back to the UK.

Counted two posts that were critical of yours and you chose to post so no need for you negative comment.

You can try googling and you will find some posts on other forums with help and 'criticism'.

Now we know that you bare referring to student loans, if you do a search of BE on that specific subject, you'll find numerous posters who have had to work out what to do with their student loans on emigrating. Might be of help to you.

It's a pity you don't keep your opinions to yourself, son. I have been planning to migrate to oz for years and will be doing it regardless of whether my student debts will go. If you found a way to save near on 25 grand you're telling me you wouldn't because it's ripping off the system, aka the government? If so then fair enough, you really are a model citizen, but I'm afraid I'm perfectly happy to rip off the people that rip us off every second of every day.

I was just asking a simple question and suddenly a couple of trolls like you have to butt in, thinking they're smart because of a post count beneath their name. Laughable.

But to those who have tried to help me, thankyou. My question is answered and I won't bother returning to this forum, have no fear.

But why should we help you to rip off the government - surely the end result of that is that taxes go up to help cover the debts left by those who have "ripped off the government" - increased taxes that wll have to be paid by the people who remain in the country.

Anyone is allowed to express their opinions on BE as long as they do so within the rules.
