A question for the self employed
How do you decide what your hourly rate is going to be?
I have been asked to quote for doing a job, I know how much the materials will cost but no idea what to ask for labour. jazzys |

Re: A question for the self employed
$25 an hour if you want a lot of work
$35 an hour if you want a reasonable amount $80 an hour if you want to stay home most days No, sorry, I have no real idea. But that bottle of red wine just went straight to my head... I haven't had a drink for months before today... |
Re: A question for the self employed
My OH's ex boss told my hubby that when he was quoting for jobs (welding and fabricating) he would charge $75 a hour.
I'd say you'd be looking at least $50 an hour. |
Re: A question for the self employed
I'm not sure what part of Oz you are in but I can give you an idea of what the hourly rates are in Perth.
Painting is $60 per hour. Maintenance/handman is $30 per hour. Hope that helps. |
Re: A question for the self employed
My mate told me to charge 80 an hour but i just wondered how that might compare with other peoples thoughts

Re: A question for the self employed
I use a lot of subbies. going rate here is $35 carpenter, builder, plasterer, concreter etc.
$65 electrician. These vary up and down a little but not much. I know of handymen that charge $60 but I dont know who gives them the work we work over australia and it doesnt seem to vary a huge amount. Most places that is the rate I woudl expect to pay and I wouldnt pay more than $45 a man even out of hours. |

J My company charges skilled tradesmen out at 81 ph doing stainless steel work and we aren't the cheapest |
Re: A question for the self employed
I usually quote per M², though some jobs have tasks that require me to charge a per hour rate. I charge $35-$40 for me & $25 for my T.A. [$40 if it's pulling up old lino or carpet]
