I can't get my head around calling all staff down to Buck Palace. What's the point of dragging everyone down just to tell them and then send them back to work? That's a lot of people doing a long trek from Balmoral etc. Why wouldn't they just tell them in whatever palace/castle they're in?

Worrying. Enhances the probability of it being a major figure.

Yup. Rebecca English. Their royal correspondent. No other source at the moment which really , is as it should be.

Beeb shouldn't make any announcement until officially informed to do so.

I'm thinking at 8am GMT or a little after.

Prince Philip was up and about at an engagement yesterday.

Because if they have to handle a state funeral, it's all hands on deck and they wouldn't be going back - they would be helping in the mass of work to be done.

Probably. Fairly sure those protocols didn't happen when Diana carked it though. We heard about that in the middle of the night.

Diana died in an RTA for all and sundry to know about. No chance of keeping that silent for any length of time.

If this is a death then there will be procedures in place re. the death Followed by a filtering of the news via official sources.

Bit odd us talking about this down here when the UK is not even properly awake yet.

Just heads of households I expect. One supposes a rider would be sent in times past . That is if the monarch hadn't snuffed it on a battle field.
