My idea of hell. Stopping and starting is bad enough but not being able to stop and start sounds horrendous. I'm sure it'll be a popular service though.

Don't forget as well that these new 787's put far less stress on the body. Although Perth > London will be a monster 17 hours, it will only be the equivelant of around 10 hours.

I've long felt the airlines have missed the trick. The focus isn't on the fastest journey to the London, but the most comfortable. Specifically a flight that leaves in the evening, has seats you can sleep in, has a prearranged stop off somewhere to stretch your legs and get pampered, has another overnight flight with seats you can sleep in, gets in some point during the afternoon.
Comfort over duration.

It will be popular. Many people do not like the stop-over in the land of sand and for Jewish Australians, is a bit of a political and religious minefield

That's about 17k kms - which is at the very limit of the only proposed aircraft capable of achieving this range - the Boeing 777-8X and Airbus A350-900. Maybe they can be developed a bit more to get more range but any kind of significant headwind on the flight would require a diversion. Remember, the longest route currently planned will be SIA's 15.5k km Singapore-New York using the A350-900. Melbourne would have a better shot at a direct London route as the distance is shorter

Sounds like marketing **** to me.

Give it a few years of development.

May be possible if the new Boeing and Airbus are developed a bit more but not before the mid-2020's in reality. The development costs (which will be significant) will need to be borne out by the potential market for 17k km+ airliners

The question is, am I right?
You want to disagree, point up how businessmen might well want the fastest flight no matter what, I'll point up how they are already in business class and have the comfort thing sorted.
You agree with my statement? Then why snipe about pointing up that most people would trade a few extra hours for more comfort on the aircraft?
And nope, not management consultant. Their role is to say what the CEO has already decided is the right answer. I focus much more on finding the answers to insoluble questions, or questions that haven't been asked yet. And pointing up what's wrong, what could be done better, etc. is the only way we move forward as a species, or in a conversation. "Yes, but" or "no, but" are the basis of actually saying something.

A declining few allow business over a certain distance, but now that travelling for business is so beneficial for business (not just CEO's. Minions travel too you know) companies keep the cost down.
There is no benefit for business class style flights unless the cost is going to be the same as economy and that aint going to happen.
