QANTAS frequent flyer credit cards getting tighter...
Just heard that ANZ is changing their frequent flyer Visa card from $1 = 1 point to $2 = 1 point.
Anyone else got a good alternative card with better points earning (Not AMEX, as I already have a QANTAS Amex card).

I also have a ANZ Qantas card, although not for much longer if they do this.

Looks like what they are doing is bundling an AMEX and Visa card on the same account, like Westpac Earth...the AMEX has greater points earn than the Visa, but the Visa is there as a backup when the AMEX gets knocked back.

That's the one I've got. I think it's 0.5 points per $ on the Visa and 1 point for $1 on the AMEX. I use the Woolworths everyday rewards as well to get more points. They give you points for using the Everyday Rewards card in BWS, so with my OH we should get a round the world trip any day now!

Well it seems like they already have as the info is on the website...although I certainly don't remember them telling me! Perhaps T&C's mean that once you have stumped up the annual fee you earn what was stated at the time?

Have a look at the Westpac Earth card - mine is linked to Qantas FF. Couldn't tell you what the rate of points is but the do seem to add up fairly fast.

I had a look at AFF.
Seems a lot of existing cardholders have been notified that their earning structure will change...lots of different info though.

Never had a frequent flyer card - how many "miles" do you need to get a "free" flight?

Well Aus - UK return is 128,000pts - so a mere $256k spend with the new ANZ levels!
Sounds ridiculous but there are often large sign on bonuses and other promotions - if you have substantial business expenses as well the points can stack up quickly.
Should add that you still have to pay the taxes on top of the 128k points.

Actually, I have just remembered - I *did* sign up for a FF card years ago and seem to remember having a statement with one mile on it!

My wife did Perth-Sydney return for 36000 points
I look at it this way:
Credit card company/bank does not have to 'give' you anything. So if just by buying everything on your credit card, and then paying it off every month you get some free flights then I see that as a bonus.

Why in the world have they changed it?
