Qantas Business Class
Flew Qantas Business Class from Sydney to Tokyo a few days ago and was greatly impressed. The service was impeccable and the food very good. Cabin staff were genuinely friendly and attentive. When I pressed the service button in mid flight, a steward came to my seat within seconds - it almost freaked me out!
Managed to get into the Qantas First Class Lounge at Sydney airport which is one of the best airline lounges anywhere in the world. Having just spent a week in Japan I can confirm that the overall level of customer service here is unbelivably good, but Qantas gets my thumbs up. |

Re: Qantas Business Class
I have only managed to fly Business class once and that was on British Airways.
OMG if I had the money I would do it again. The service was absolutely first class, not just Business Class. This was in 2005 and even then they had the full length seat that turned into a bed. Pillow, blanket, lie down for a good nights sleep instead of being hunched up in cattle class................sheer heaven  If you feel peckish between meals you are directed to The Tucker Box, sandwiches, fruit, chocolate, drinks, just help yourself. The lounges at London and New York were like private clubs. When I was met at the airport the family couldn't believe the difference in how I normally look after the gruelling trip from Australia to the UK. I had very little jet lag either.......... |

And as you say, the BA lounges are suberb - the Qantas Business lounge at SYD was a bit of a disappointment to be honest. Not been on QF business but I have heard the food is a lot better than BA. |
Re: Qantas Business Class
I would imagine Business Class on the majority of the major players is second to none considering the amount charged. The cabin crew have fewer 'customers' to deal with and so I'd also expect the service to be faster and more attentive than in Cattle Class.

Re: Qantas Business Class
Business class varies so much with different carriers. Lately I've flown a lot between Brisbane/Sydney and London, business class.
I detest flying British Airways; I've had the worst experience/service with them. Singapore Airlines are bad too. They wake you up at dreadful hours when everyone is sleeping. The food is bad. Qantas is good - one of the two I will fly business class again Virgin Atlantic from Sydney was fantastic. They don't fly from Brisbane however when possible I will use them again. |
Re: Qantas Business Class
I've only flown business with BA and Premium economy with Virgin.
Thought BA were fantastic on all counts. We had upstairs on the plane with 14 other people to Sydney. Blissful and quiet! I can't bear flying Qantas but now have their FF card through Woolworths. If I fly with them back to the UK, I'd always make sure the Singpore/London leg was with BA. |

I have my return half of my Qantas ticket to fly back on March 30th, and was not looking forward to it as I really don't like Qantas (even though I worked for them for 10 years!!), however when I changed my booking the other day the girl told me it was on a BA flight.........woooppppeeee
Unfortunately it's in cattle class though :( BA and Qantas business class are slightly different. BA business class is still shyte. Qantas is just fine (for all the extra spondoolicks you pay) |

I have nearly given up on Singapore business. Scratchy static blanket, tiny pillows and those horrid slanted bed efforts on the A330 from Singapore to Aus. The lounge at Brisbane is rubbish and London is just nasty. Krisflyer is now about as stingey a frequent flyer program as you can get. I prefer VS for its duvet, large pillow, privacy and completely flat bed, excellent club house in London, amazing check in at terminal 3 with private security channel, uses the Air NZ lounge in Sydney which is one of the best there and hong kong has its own club house. The Flying Club earns with Virgin Blue and all Star Alliance carriers so I'm happy at the moment with them. |
Re: Qantas Business Class
Just completed the return leg from Tokyo in Qantas Business Class. Food was excellent again. Duck salad, followed by nicely done sea bream with Shitake mushrooms. Top Sydney restaurant Rockpool designs their menus. Some very nice wines on offer too. I like the way they get you to select exactly what you want for breakfast as soon as you're airborne. Service was terrific again.
Small gripes include the Qantas seat which, although flat, is not horizontal. It could also be a bit softer. Another small gripe is they collected the headphones more than 20 minutes before landing. I find this unecessary and annoying. Also the Tokyo overnight service uses A330s which have slightly less space. Overall, I rate Qantas Business very highly. Better than LAN, Japan Airlines, Iberia, American and even better than Thai which I also like. |

The Qantas A380 has horizontal lie-flats...and I think they recently announced they would be fitting them in the remaining 747s as well...not sure about the A330 though.
HOWEVER the configuration on the Qantas A380 for economy class is no different than any other cattle class, in fact if anything it feels worse as there are more of you packed in........I felt almost claustrophobic coming here. |
Re: Qantas Business Class
BA business class would be my first choice because I know that the beds will be flat and horizontal on all aircraft. I hate those beds that are not quite flat but rather about 170 degrees.
I am giving Cathay a whirl when I come over in April. Everything is too up in the air with BA and these strikes at the moment. |
