Principal Principle
Why do people keep on saying "Principle plus Interest"??? Argh!
My personal principles are not for sale. You need to pay principal and interest to the bank. The high school principal is angry. I got an approval-in-principle for my loan principal. <whinge over> |
Re: Principal Principle
Grama nazi?
Are you saying it's the principal of the thing? |

Are you saying it's the principal of the thing? Last week, I was horrified to discover that all of the people in our American office believe that 'Premise' is the singular form of 'Premises'... S |
Re: Principal Principle
I am soooo with you! But everyone hates me when I point out the correct spelling!! The other day I saw a law firm which stated its 'principle' area of business was litigation. ARGH

Re: Principal Principle
That is bad practise.

Re: Principal Principle
Halting from making commonwealth *twitch* for a moment, I'd much rather people put their efforts into saying something interesting and considered, than put those same efforts into learning the, frankly stupid, vagaries of the English language. You can run a text through an automatic checker to fix most major grammar issues - you can't fix dumb thoughts the same way.
Witness the perfectly formed, grammatically correct, diatribes from politicians' mouths. Learning the difference between 'principal' and 'principle' is a 'nice-to-have' relative to knowing when you are talking crap. |

You should run away from any mortgage broker who incorrectly uses "principle". :scarper:

Re: Principal Principle
I can understand Joe Public not using grammar correctly, but when it is on an official document, shop sign (ie made by a signwriter rather than hastily chalked on a board,) or in the newspaper, then time should be taken to get it right.
Both my OH and I find the lazy use of spelling, punctuation and grammar to be increasing. |

'I / You / She / He / We / They should OF known better.':frown: Could be any other should / could / would construction as above. Seriously!?! You should HAVE gone to school! |
Re: Principal Principle
I think people should be accurate. I mean I don't want my hypertension being mistaken for hypotension.
My dad used to get annoyed at folk confusing gasometers and gas-meters. |

Re: Principal Principle
My current pet hatred is the incorrect usage of "I" instead of "me".
I don't know if people think it makes them sound more intelligent to say "Sally and I" instead of "Sally and me" but it isn't always correct. It's really simple though - take out 'Sally and' in your sentence and then work out whether you'd use "I" or "me". Unless, of course, you aren't using a sentence containing "Sally"... :D (Yes, this is completely unimportant to most people. Do I care? No.) |
