Prestatyn tips???
Hi,
As we are still waiting for a job contract (since October) to start the 457 visa process, you can understand that we (OH and boys 8 & 13) are getting really fed up. My mum (veering between tears and a brave face) has decided to "surprise" me and the boys with a trip to Prestatyn, N.Wales with her to stay in a caravan for 3 nights from Friday (just when the weather is going to change for the worse). Its on a holiday camp complete with grown men dressed in animal suits and nightly "cabaret":curse:. Although I am sure there will be loads for the kids to do, I don't fancy being held captive there for the whole time so wondered, has anybody been there and do you know of anything else good that we could do? I already know about the Welsh Mountain zoo so will go there Monday on the way home. Thanks, Ren xx |

Re: Prestatyn tips???
Have a wander round Conwy - very pretty town and you can walk round (some) of the walls of the castle.
You could also go to the Great Orme (large headland) in Llandudno and go to the museum there (bronze age mine site, if I remember correctly). You can either drive or get a tram from Llandudno. Spectacular views from the top if it is not raining! Then to finish, go for a walk down the pier and have a coffee... or be classy and go to the arcade and eat candy floss. If you like walking, then go to Betws-y-Coed. There is also Bodnant Gardens nearby that are meant to be worth a visit. If you do go there, then check out the timber pavillion - my first job after leaving school was to design the extension to that  Betws-y-coed - http://www.croeso-betws.org.uk/ Conwy - http://www.conwy.com/ Bodnant Gardens - http://www.bodnantgarden.co.uk/ Great Orme - http://www.greatorme.org.uk/ |
Re: Prestatyn tips???
The only good thing about Prestatyn is that its close to Rhyl suncenter! There's a fair there too, kids will like it, but the whole area is a dump!
Go to Llandudno for a day out, have a nice meal in lovely surroundings at Betws-y-coed, then drive through the mountains and lakes.. |

Prestatyn! She must be REALLY angry at you for emigrating!;)
Everything she does with the kids is followed by "well thats the last time we will be doing that together" as if someone has a terminal illness. All her friends keep telling me how upset she is and how she won't cope. I tell them how helpful they are in letting me know that:mad: THEN she goes and books a teletext holiday for her and Dad to Benidorm for a week. BEFORE we have gone, last week, in the SCHOOL HOLIDAYS in fact. And now she is making the kids lose 2 days from school so we can go in a caravan. I really do love her to bits but God, she is a pain in the rump sometimes:rofl: |
Re: Prestatyn tips???
Can't she have special 'nanna' time with just the kids and leave you at home. She'll be dead chuffed you're all leaving by the end of the weekend ;)

No, I think the only thing for it is to glue a permanent smile on and sing along with captain croccy and his possibly paedo mates:blink: |
Re: Prestatyn tips???
I'm in Prestatyn right now, only because my Parents moved here on retirement. I've often wondered what there was to do. I thought it was the Norths version of Bognor.... Aka Gods waiting room. It is bloody boring here lol.
Must be at least 24 hours since I mentioned how green the UK is, and Prestatyn is greener than most ;) I wonder if there is such a thing as a decent pub/club around here, I wouldnt mind a bit of time out... ???? |
Re: Prestatyn tips???
Ozzieeagle - there used to be a good pub on the road to Rhyl that sold good pub grub too, steaks/chicken on a sizzling hotplate. Probably shutdown now.
Prestatyn My kids used to dance and we ended up in the Pontins and Haven camps every year. The Pontins camp is alright, budget accomodation a bit shabby/silver is better but the camp in general is alright. The kids will love it. The Haven camp is mostly caravans which get very cold in the evening  We used to have the oven, hobs and fire on to warm them up!! The chippy there is disgusting, slow service and very expensive. Stay well away - it would be cheaper to eat out. some friends of ours have said that the seafront at Rhyl has been modernised as last time we went it was an eyesore with loads of empty properties. I'm sure you will survive  |
Re: Prestatyn tips???
Although I'm fiercely protective of North Wales (Snowdonia) it doesn't go as far as Prestatyn. What a dump ! As stevemich advised, travel to Conwy or Llandudno, which are beautiful. Stay away from Rhyl if you can, that's even worse. Alternatively, get drunk, dream of Oz and forget your worries. No doubt you're feeling guilty and trying to do the right thing. Good luck.
