Pommies in Perth

I sure this has been done a thousand times before, but oh well.

I have got a job in Perth and am going soon. It is Perth because they offered me the best relocation package (im a nurse).

My question is this.

Why are so many Poms going to Perth? Reading this forum I reckon its got to be half of those migrating. But why? Is it a tribal thing? How many poms are already there? Got to be thousands and thousands. when Im sunning myself on the beach, will it be like Spain and all I will hear is the accents of Liverpool, Newcastle, London and Birmingham. With my west country drawl now also added to the pot!!

I heard that the Daily Mail recommends it, you know, to get away from immigrants.

Absolutely, sounds like a typical day at Mullalloo or Quinns. If it's not the accents it's the tattoos - Welsh dragons, football club emblems and one I see every now and then, a HUGE Scottish piper covering the whole of the dude's back.

Mullaloo beach=Costa del Sol=Algarve=Secret harbour. No difference.

Fortunately not all of Perth is Pommified.

I am sure I read somewhere that Sydney is the most popular destination, but then a lot of those people will be going with work and hence rely on work to arrange it and also expect work colleagues to be friends. That is probably partly true of Melbourne too. Those of us who come for the lifestyle tend to choose Perth or QLD because it is not so busy / expensive and we are seeking to change gear.

As for why Perth, until a year or too house prices were much lower so the dream of being mortgage free was there. It is also self-sustaining in that when you have friends / relatives here you are more likely to have visited or go where you will at least know someone. The WA economy is booming at the moment so in many professions there are lots of jobs and wages good. I think the proximity to the UK (shorter flights, easier to watch the Premier League in an evening:rolleyes:) appeals to some.

For us it just has that laid back thing going on. That is either a big plus or a big minus depending on your viewpoint.
