Hey, Polly really sad to see you go though I completly understand why you have taken this position.

The actions of another moderator have completly killed the the atmosphere in the Australian immigration threads and I stopped posting for months because I couldn't stand the shrill comments (often wrong) that eminated from over the rainbow, if you stop modding its going to get way worse but that can't be your consideration.

Enjoy your free time, I'll miss ya

Polly,

I sincerely hope that you choose to stick around - with or without your mod-ship. You're a good witch so you don't need additional powers to perform your magic

Re: Pollyana

Moderating can be a difficult, soul destroying job - I did it for an ISP on a range of boards from Big Brother all the way through the War on Iraq and the aftermath of the London Bombing via kids boards and relationship boards, so oooooh I know, lol.

It can also be (occasionally) immensely enjoyable, otherwise you wouldn't get any suckers to do it.

You're at the sharp pointy end - you get accused of favouritism, of being a Nazi, of being a fascist, of being power hungry and power mad (perhaps that was just me on several wimmins boards!), on polarised boards you get accused of simultaneously favouring 'the other side' and sometimes you wonder what the hell you do it for! I don't know what training the mods here get - we were taught coping strategies and had a great support network which helped immensely.

But Polly - you and the other mods on here do a fantastic job, I hope you change your mind about resigning the modship.. and if you can't see anyway to reconcile your feelings about the job, I sincerely hope you stay on as a member.

In fact I feel that Polly has been dragged into this when its really nothing to do with her. I was really hoping that it would blow over and she would stay because if anyone cared to go through her posting history - she is always positive, kind, non confrontational in her moderating. Go search on each mod and their messages and see what conclusions are drawn.

certain members and mods dont get on and I think that perhaps a few of us go off on a tangent and this gets up peoples noses. thing is - its the barbie - it doesnt happen anywhere else. I personally spend time making sure I try to be helpful. This has nothing to do with any mod/poster friendships and I think its really under handed trying to insinuate that it is.

I think Polly has been targeted in order to get under the skin of another member but its sad because she really loves this forum and I know also that Sue has tried really hard to be fair and is not behind this little hiccup. Its just silly got out of hand and the thing is that in order to accuse anyone of weilding power, you have to believe power is there to be weilded. I dont think it should be - its just about stopping racism, out of control filth etc isnt it? Not personal like or dislike of topic?

I would love to own a forum that has so many diverse and active members.

Its just not cool you know. I am really sad about this. Thanks polly for always making the effort to be helpful

Agree. I thought it was just me and was planning to slip away quietly.

At least Polly doesn't jump on people's throat/make a sarcastic remark if they happen to make an innocent mistake.

Perhaps certain Moderators have taken things too personally lately and posters have left BE as a result, which I feel is to the detriment of the forum.

While I appreciate and support the fact that some parts of this website are immigration based and need to be serious, I also feel there should be somewhere for us all to let off steam, and pulling the reins too tightly prevents that release. The original aim of the Barbie was to allow people to relax, and have an Aussie-based "Lounge" forum. Recently however I have seen the gap between the two forums get larger and larger, and I feel I can no longer support the way that the Australian forums, and the Barbie in particular, are "policed".

I have not yet taken a decision as to whether I will remain a member of BE.

polly, your slippers and comfy chair are right where you left them over in our camp love ... you know where we are ;)

+1 to that. I've seen brand new posters with about 10 posts to their name being on the receiving end of that treatment by certain others. God knows what they must think...I'm sure they give up on BE fairly quickly though.

It will be a real shame if Polly stops modding these parts...some of it has been far from fair recently, and hypocritical, OMG hypocritical! If it swings further that way that can't be good.

(Yes I know where the report button is and who Sue is! ;) )

I hate it when posters make sarcastic remarks and  when you have an alternative opinion. It's almost like they have to belittle your opinion because it undermines any support they had for theirs.

Actually I don't hate it. But it's an interesting window into human nature. Funny thing is that they often get inflamed by someone doing the same to them.

I always feel it is such a shame when it has come to someone leaving a forum in this way whether they be a Mod or just an ordinary poster.

I don't know what is wrong with people when they have to be horrible on these forums to which we come to for information or a bit of friendly chat whilst we all get through being an immigrant in a new country.

I agree that if you get a fact wrong someone jumps down your throat, someone had a right go at me the other day because here in Australia I hadn't personally experienced seeing something they had!

Seems the folks on this forum are not quite as happy as they should/want to be living here, maybe that is why? It's a shame as sometimes you feel a bit scared to post on here so no wonder new folks just lurk!

Good luck with whatever you decide Polly but I often have a chuckle at your witchy references!

Pollyana is one of the good ones - she tries very hard to get the balance right between allowing people freedom to say what they think and pulling the plug on threads /posts that have received complaints.

Pollyana, If you do stop the moderating, I'm sure everyone will understand - but don't leave the forum
Polly.

You know that I really, really don't want you to give up modding. Take a break. Go scream at a wall. Come visit me on the main, most important, island of the South Pacific but don't make this decision yet or even now and in this way...... please.

Perhaps the focus from everyone should be how do we get her to stay as a great super mod and poster, rather than play the pointy fingers game which usually ends in tears.

I'm with Julie. Personally, I don't post on here too much any more are it's way to cliquey (sp?) at the moment, but it will only get worse if you go matey :). Having said that - you need to do what's right for you, and not for us;)
