Well corrected. Yes. It was a generous, quickly created, temporary (til September) handout and rightly so for the time and need. I wonder if it will be pulled back to an earlier date for other industries too.

There's no evidence yet of an economic downturn any worse in NZ than in Oz. And being able to lift COVID-19 restrictions faster and more completely leaves the Kiwis more in line for a V-shaped recovery than a U-shaped one.

That report is quite interesting and worth a bit of a read of you are interested. To summarise, without a second wave, it's a 9% drop for New Zealand and 5% for Australia (NZ is towards the bottom of the OECD forecast). Like I said previously, the worst is yet to come for sheep shagger land, but hey, Auntie Cindy's socialist magic money pudding will come to rescue their backward asses!

Of course they are in the doodoo. They unnecessarily turned off their entire economy for 5 weeks. They had one of the most harsh lockdowns of anywhere in the world, yet had a tiny case load, and played it like they were a UK or Italy.
That's why they are near the top of the list for GDP contraction.

And now the Kiwis have stadiums stuffed with real customers for the footy, instead of cardboard cutouts and canned shouting to pretend to be the audience as in Oz. At least one part of their economy is already comfortably ahead of Australia's in terms of a V-shaped recovery...
New Zealand won't have a V shape. Pretty hard to sell stuff to people, like tourism, when the rest of the world is still shut.
Worst still they crippled their own domestic economy without thinking what the rest of the world recovery was going to be like.

growing numbers for starters.
The continued point fingering at NZ due entirely to an ideologically dislike of the Arden government, yet never complaint about Bumbling Boris or the totally inapt US administration , is selective criticism in the extreme.
What you should and your cohort be doing is bowing at the feet of Arden in total respect of New Zealand being the first nation to declare themselves post virus. The cheer on the rapid rise of their share market. To yell yourself hoarse at the world value having a nation 'virus free' which will prove a big, likely very big marketing tool indeed. A country that is in a reposition to reset its economy and if doing it right the potential to become a world leader in evoking a clean and sustainable economy.

Hence why they are not Italy or UK. Are you attempting to suggest UK got it right? Take a look at how much the UK economy is expected to contract this year. How about USA? Various states opening up regardless of increasing numbers. Check out TX or FL

The only state in Australia cheering on total economic shut down, Victoria, has got some COVID problems to deal with
Even better, all states in Oz declare returning travellers with COVID in their numbers. New Zealand either hide them or no one returns to New Zealand with COVID.

I have raised the UK's totally late to the party attitude. No one wants to discuss it. I guess it is "British" expats.

If you were actually living here you'd know it's far from an economic train wreck. We are pretty much back to normal. The resorts are full and retail sales in the past 2 weeks have been great. Probably 90% of the population here agree with what we did and are very comfortable with the position we find ourselves in. đź‘ŤAt least at moment. No one knows what the future holds.
