Re: Pitbulls should be banned.
Friends in BC Canada live next door to a legal marijuana farm. Guarded by a pit bull called Black Jesus and his pack.
That dog is cold as ice, no expression whatsoever, just stares through your soul Huge too, not short, tall as stocky, even his eyes are black. I have never seen such a scary creature in my entire life.
Sure they are not all like that but bloody hell.

Re: Pitbulls should be banned.
They weren't pit bulls, they were American Staffys. As happens in almost all dog attack cases it's the owner, not the dogs. The owners were fined previously for not having the dogs registered. Why anyone would want to keep 3 of these dogs is another thing, they were in the pack mind set when they escaped and this poor bloke was on the receiving end. I don't disagree with the dogs being destroyed in this instance but to ban all dogs of a certain breed is not actully going to solve the problem. Have a test for people to qualify owning dogs, that would help more.

Why do people (including well known people) want to own dogs bred to kill?

Re: Pitbulls should be banned.
What makes the breed different is that most domestic dogs who bite do so once or twice. The Pit Bull latches on, shakes, and will not let go. Perhaps not more aggressive but certainly more lethal. In the evil & decadent US, many, if not most Pit Bull owners are people who own them solely for their reputation as intimidators. As I said before I LOVE dogs but please don't buy a Pit.

Re: Pitbulls should be banned.
I will find the research on the Internet when I have time, but from memory the worst offender for failing canine temperament tests is the Daschund. Only 47% passed first time.
Staffordshire Bull Terriers top the ranks with 97% passing first time, with Amstaffs and other bull breeds being in the 80's/90's.
Collies, jack Russell's, stupid useless fluffy things all come way down the scoring but because they don't have the strength that bull breeds do, they rarely make the headlines when they attack.
Deed not breed, sure some dogs are born cranky but the vast majority are made by uneducated or criminally motivated people.
As for pit bulls, they are banned in most places and so unscrupulous back yard breeders sell them as amstaff or Stafford crosses which tarnishes the reputation of these very loyal, friendly and trustworthy dogs. That said, I'd rather have a pitty than a bloody westie!

Re: Pitbulls should be banned.
You clearly don't or you would have noticed the punctuation. I said "collies, jack russell's, stupid useless fluffy things" not "collies and jack russells' are stupid useless fluffy things".
I use stupid useless fluffy things to collectively describe a range of snappy toy breeds that have no purpose.
I have owned several border collies in my life and they are the most intelligent breed you can own - which also makes them highly strung and more prone to aggression and anxiety. And they tend to herd children like sheep. Watch those ankles.
