I asked this question in the first place because recently I have read a lot of negative stuff about Sydney ( the focus of intense research!) , mostly by Australian born people.
Maybe they have seen a big change for the worse over the past decade(s) since I was there.
Allegedly its becoming more anonymous, less friendly, more materialistic and celebrity-driven...but isn't that a part of every big 'world' city like London, Paris, Tokyo...even Dublin, bless all those with romantic notions of Ireland, is all of those things.
I am determined to still appreciate the good bits! Cheese shops, markets, not so many pale skinned people ...and put up with the rest.

I'm newish to it but I adore it (7 months) it has everything I could want, unlike some I find that the people are friendly. I have lived inner east and am now in Sutherland near the beach I liked both the only criticism of Sydney is the rental prices
