Peter Slipper... What's the future?

I'm thinking todays headlines aren't going to make Peter Slippers' wife very happy... (let alone his children.)

If what is being reported is true... and she didn't know... I feel very sorry for her.

As for what happens next in Australian politics - well I guess that's going to be interesting.

People are incredibly stupid when it comes to texting. Assuming it's true of course.

The Daily Telegraph reports that it has sighted court documents alleging Peter Slipper made advances towards James Ashby.

As usual the paper gives me a hilarious morning with its brand or journalism.

cat in a guy's attic? yes!

Twinks or Bears - what are you into?"

"Lucky canberra. Tim (third person) thought you were a nice twink!".
I prefer twinks, but horses for courses!

This reminds me so much of the Little Britain sketch where the prime minister and his gay assistant Sebastian had a crush on him.

Totally amazed at how slipper got the positon of speaker. How did that happen????, he was under some inquiry into how he spent about $600,000 in a year on expenses, including some 6 week trip to africa and europe.

Re: Peter Slipper... What's the future?

Slippery Pete was given the speaker's job in a classic piece of political deal making.

Harry Jenkins is labour and was the speaker for15 years (and was highly respected)

Slipper is liberal and fell out with his party.

labour convinced Jenkins to step down as speaker and thus gained his vote in the house - a big advantage in a minority govt. slipper got the job and the liberals lost a vote in the house. I don't think the liberals even saw the change coming.

Still not sure what harry Jenkins will get from the deal but I'm sure there is a payoff waiting for him in the future.

Couldn't care less about slippers sex life. do care if sexual harassment is involved though.

All a bit machiavellian really

Thats for sure.

With him and Thomson going I think Labour will be unable to do anything.

Woo hoo another election. The battle of the donkeys.

Thomson should have gone a long time ago. Instead they string investigations out as long as possible to keep The status quo until the next election.

The slipper deal meant labour could fob off the independents Wilkie and Xenothon pokie machine reform deals. They no longer relied on their votes and were under huge pressure from clubs , NSW in particular

The longer labour let the stink carry on the larger the damage. It is a self inflicted wound.

Fair enough, but his sexuality (even though he is married) is not the problem.

Moral turpitude isn't a crime. Its the harassment that is illegal.

Wow, hadn't thought of that. The timing does seem rather coincidental.

I wonder if any connection will emerge?

Maybe it's just me, but I thought the headline in todays Sunday Mail was amusingly a little Freudian...

"Push for Speaker to stand down during probe."

Trial by media, what happened to innocent until proven guilty?

Its a worry that people jump to conclusions, and more of a worry that they vote on three minute grabs.

God help us if the libs get control of the Senate, we have been there before and it was not a pretty picture, ended up in lots of money for middle class welfare we now cannot get rid of.

We need the Senate to be a buffer.

The media doesn't have Slipper on trial. He has not been "found guilty" of anything. The media is reporting on allegations. That's what the media is supposed to do. Report.

If anyone was shallow enough to simply vote on a 10 second grab they could just as easily vote on Slippers denial as an allegation... and people who jump to conclusions would not be employed to investigate any matters raised.

As for welfare payment issues, the shadow treasurer was in the media recently advocating welfare payment cuts.

If I was to vote on that, I'd be thinking long and hard about the implications.
