Good Afternoon Everyone

Just a general question, I am sure you will re-assure me, but we (Wife and 2 boys) are hoping to visit Perth in December, the wifes brother lives in Perth and are going to use the visit as a holiday / Reccy visit as we have not been to Perth for 7 years. We are planning on starting the process of the 175 GSM end of this year.

My darling wife is concerned that there wont be any Christmas Trees ! or decorations !.

Can you just confirm that you do have Christmas Trees, decorations and mince pies please. :-)

Oh and if anyone fancies meeting (the mad family from Wales) for a beer or two to have a chat let us know.

yep u do get deccs and trees and even houses with lights on its wierd bein in thongs shorts and a singlet xmas day on the foreshore prob never get use to that :thumbsup:

There will be a large Christmas treeto be found in the centre of the city,in Forrest Place. Last year the City of Perth did do quite a good job at bringing a xmas feel to the centre...up on previous years i thought,possibly owing to the fact of there being a new Lord Mayor.(finally)

We do tend to go a bit ott but then we do have 2 young boys.. thats my excuse anyway;)

There's plenty of Christmas decorations - lots of sparkly things like tinsel, which the bright summer sun will shine off! Quite a different experience! Try and have sometime on the beach (we traditionally had Christmas morning on the beach before doing the afternoon/evening barbie thing with family and friends), as it is a bit of a novelty to do so.

The only downside is that it is sometimes too hot to want to eat a big Christmas meal - that's really a cold weather thing to do. The BIG upside is that the weather is far nicer than a northern hemisphere Christmas and you are outdoors and enjoying yourself for it.

If you can, take a trip round the Mandurah canals. All the houses are really well decorated and try to out-do each other.

The boats play Xmas carols and it's nice in a 'non-traditional-Xmas' kind of way.

It is a novelty for a few years but in time a lot of folk tend to pine for a more traditional experience any sat it doesn't feel like Christmas.

What time would you have to go on one of these boats though, cos it dont get dark till really late in December does it.

A tip - if you are going for the Mandurah cruise and want to tag on a nice little extra, head south on the afternoon to the Dawesville cut (about 20 mins) turn in the junction immediatly after the cut bridge and head towards the beach. On the side of the Cut is a small deep water marina with a entrance boat entrace off the cut. Here you can sit and watch dolphins jumping in and out of the air with a few meters of where you sit.
The beach is also good and great for kids on a weekend as over summer there is a surf club.
