Seriously, yet another unrelated thread ends up on the subject of the UK's debt and its many measures? Time for another subforum methinks....one for off topic posts, maybe call it the Barbie II or summink.

Quite. That's why I steered back to my original point was how this might affect Perth.

Don`t think it will happen, Colin Barnett doesn`t seem to be going for it but who knows. Personally I hope it won`t, it will change the area and I reckon affect access to Garden Island for the public who at present can land boats on certain parts of the island. There has been talk of an increased American presence at Stirling over the last couple of years, but that`s all it`s been. Rockingham local council I think are rubbing their sweaty little hands, hoping it does happen for the economic stimulus it would bring.

I was thinking this because of the CSG in Japan. I know the cultures are closer here but there have been quite a few problems there with US servicemen. Also, you make an interesting point about the access because we all know how OTT US security measures are - I dread to think what the place will be like if they do this. At the moment it's just a DOD report but I know they are taking Chinese expansion in the region very seriously and want to meet that challenge but there are not that many places in the region where they can put a CSG. I'm not against the group going there in principle because I know which side Australia's bread is buttered on but it will have an impact.
