Thanks for all of your congratulations. 
I started the ball rolling in October 2008: CVs, etc for the ACS assessment, submitted in November. Positive results from the ACS end January. Applied for 176 family sponsored end February 2009. Realised that the visa would take forever under 176 family sponsored so applied for state sponsorship from ACT in March. Got ACT SS in early May. CO assigned in Early June, PCCs and meds requested. Early July meds showed up as finalised. 15th September: visa granted
. Twelve months from start to finish. Oh and my docs showed as "required" throughout the process. ...They still show that now. And the CO who granted was different to the meds/PCCs requester.
So now that we have our visa the next hurdle is to decide when we're going to make our move. Having sold our house and looked at the exchange rates etc, we have decided to jump back onto the property ladder and have bought a lovely house just two streets away from the river thames. There are a few things causing us to stay a bit longer. The state of the exchange rate right now combined with lower UK house prices vs higher Aus prices. My OH has been a civil servant for 18 years and we recently discovered that she needs 20 or more to get a decent pension. Also, my elder son is lined up for an operation next year and we have 100% trust in the excellent orthodontists who are dealing with him - all on our free NHS

We are now working on a two year plan. With visas in hand we'll have a good chance of finding work before we move.
I wish if we could just jump onto the next plane but (in our circumstances) it's probably not the wisest thing to do just yet
The validation trip is penciled in for Easter 2010

Sort of pleased for you............but London to Canberra.........Mate I've made that move - don't drink all the booze you might be needing it when you get here to block out the boredom etc!
