Yes that airport thing is a shocker and something not to be looked forward to unless you are MEETING family off the plane. I am going back in February for good and as soon as I bought my ticket I made my mind up I don't want my kids or grand-kids at the airport, my girlfriend said she will take me.

Airports are such emotional places, I am at work there this afternoon and every time I go past the bit where families are farewelling each other I tear up.

Good luck, it isn't pleasant. After our first experience of it we agreed with all family that we wouldn't come in to the airport. We would just drop off at the front, say see you later and leave. The first time family left the kids were inconsolable. Just doing the quick drop off helped a little. House seems empty and quiet for about a week and then we slowly got back to normal.

Not easy so my thoughts are with you all.

Yup, definitely a killer - big smiles, keep it all together then blab the whole way home. You will get over it though, you always do!

We've banned all of our friends and family from coming to the airport in July, it'll just be too hard and I don't want the last thing we see to be misery! I took my brother, his wife and my niece to the airport in July last year and it was hideous! My little niece was crying and waving and calling me to come pick her up, I kept it together in departures but bawled the whole way home on the tube!!

Good luck tomorrow

Tx

Ahhh well ..........

It's definitely the worst aspect of anyone visiting, and I personally start to dread it during the last two weeks of any visit. Dropping at the departure car park is the way to go. Hope you feel better soon.

At least you are feeling sad about it, I was expecting a Daily Mail/The Sun 'Dear Deirde' style tale of dysfunction and chaos....of how your 'MIL' had ate you out of house and home..(etc) and your 'FIL' had not lifted a finger...(repeat) - as we often hear. Good on you.
