'Let's Talk About Where Babies Come From' by Robie Harris. It is Family Planning Association approved.
We gave it to our eldest when he was about 7. The illustrations are very child friendly as is the text. Our version was published in 1999 so there may be a newer version.

It depends on your child. My sons gave the subject all the gravity it deserved and lapped up the cute, child friendly picture books.
My daughter asked me one day "Where do babies come out?" So I answered her, thankful that she didn't want to know about the going in bit yet. She laughed and laughed her head off, "For real??" and she'd be off again. A year later I got some of those books out of the library and when it came to bed time I tried to read them to her and she said "No thanks, I don't want to look at those, because I won't be able to sleep." Eventually, she came round to asking and I used one of my pregancy books with real pictures of real women giving birth and she loved it. No accounting for taste!

Try "Where did come from" My mom gave it to me when I was about 7 or 8. When I was about 10 she bought me "what's happening to me" I developed pretty early and I was not a happy camper!

http://www.amazon.com/Whats-Happenin.../dp/0818403128
which starts to go into some detail about sexual health and STD's if I remember correctly - it was a LONG time ago!!!!.... (all in a lighthearted way)

Re: Parents - Can You Recommend A Book to Read with Kids That Explains THOSE Question
Our 7yo is showing a real interest in her body just now and has begun to ask lots of questions about where do babies come from etc? We've tried to explain a few concepts in very simple terms but she seems to need more of an explanation.
We were thinking that a good thing to do might be to buy a book that we can read together as a family and which we can dip in an out of when particular questions arise. Idealy, it would be worded in a way that's age appropriate for little ones but also which gives us oldies some guidance too.
Can anyone recommend any books that helped them?

There is a bookstore in Brisbane: Open Leaves Books at 111 Gladstone Road, Highgate Hill. that deals exclusively in this type texts: grief, sexuality, PTSD, coping with serious illness, death etc and lots written for children as well as adults. Actually there are probably some books on here that would help some migrants cope with homesickness which in some cases is a severe form of grief.
They have a website and you can search and buy on line
www.openleaves.com.au.
The books are not just texts, most are written for the ordinary person and are widely used by government agencies for their "help" libraries. I'm sure you will find what you want on line there, or you can ring them and ask advice.
They also have a small shop at 79 Cardigan Street, Carlton, but search the site first for details of what you might need.

Be sure you've understood the question correctly. My sister's son when aged 7 (he's well grown up now) came home and asked where he came from and sister well prepared for this, launched into the full egg and sperm saga.
When she'd finished he just looked at her and said "Peter next door said he came from Ballarat"
Honest story. Very puzzled 7 year old.

Maybe someone can explain it to me as I find myself expecting our 3rd. That's the lot. We've been at this lark now for 3.5 years...
