Paralympics

Am I missing something? I can't find any mention of them being shown on either 9 or Foxtel. They have to be showing them somewhere, surely?

I'm not looking at it, either. Stoopid black hole reception coverage. Gourmet Farmer it is.

Hehe, an oldy but a goody, heard that earlier on. I just can't believe how fast they can go down that pool.

ABC2 commentators are an odd lot- very unprofessional, but strangely fun to watch. Wish they'd show more action and less talk though- they only show the odd event with an Aussie in it.

Missed the opening ceremony.:(

It's on the ABC site. I got very frustrated with the commentators last night. Well actually it was the woman asking moronic questions that if asked at the Olympics would be classed as offensive. She was also talking about a competitor and was asking someone if he thought she'd medal and then said 'I know you don't like that verb'. Well I don't either given that it's not a verb you stupid stupid woman. It could almost make you wish for Channel 9!

Re: Paralympics

The opening ceremony was awesome. For some reason, it had more heart and seemed more genuine than the big showstopper of the Olympics.

We've been watching the events so far. My daughter is very interested in it. I remind her, hey, look at those athletes...the only limits are the ones you put on yourself.

I "know" 2 team GB Paralympians!

Karen Butler - Shooting - was my neighbor & classmate until we were 16.
Harriet Lee - Swimming - is my college roommate's, son's swimming teacher!

I am famous by association :D

ABC commentators were awful IMO. Watched with horror! Bless my darling eldest though, he asked, whilst watching dressage, do the horses have to be disabled as well?

I got into trouble last night for mentioning that Australia are doing really well in the medal tally at the Paralympics, much better than their able bodied team mates.
Well I actually said that for a long time we immigrants have known that Australia is a country full of Gold Medal winning retards, cripples & gimps.

in future humans will opt to replace organic body parts with perfected bionic versions. those blade runners are faster than me! bionic parts have the advantage of not feeling lactic burn. recently they implanted a bionic eye on a blind person who can now see light. one day the blind can move independently again.

Why, when ABC are generally an excellent broadcaster, do they have complete fools in the studio?

Re: Paralympics

The commentators should be alright as they are part of the ABC radio 'Grandstand' team and are very highly respected sports commentators and journalists.

The hosts are a different story. From what I've heard they haven't been taking the whole thing very seriously at all and also have been making some smart**** comments at times.

I think most people would be switching off thanks to that.

Australians can be rather irreverent though. It's not considered as offensive here as in many other countries but it can grate after a while when some take it a little too far.

They're not being offensive or even irreverent, they're just being complete ****wits. One clip this evening - Two idiots standing on a street in London discussing the street artists, you know the guys who spray themselves gold and then stand really still and then frighten people. Camera pans out to show they're next to the Albert Memorial and saying how good the statue is and how he's not moved for hours. Not funny, not entertaining, not irreverent, just banal. Could I see some awesome sportsmen/women please. The coverage of events is appalling.

I've had them on as back ground noise as I study but find I spend a lot of time getting up and watching. These folks are amazing the way they have to fight some really intense afflictions while they race each other. One girl in the velodrome had to fight off what looked like a fit at full speed and then went on to win a medal.

The Irish guy that won the 100m is legally blind. I take my glasses off and I'm completely ****ed. He was only a second off bolts time.

I was watching the paralympics today, made me wonder...

If these buggers can run faster than I can, swim better than I can, lift heavier weights than I can, why the hell do they need to park closer to Coles than me?

Loved the Para Closing Ceremony and it ran a close 2nd to the Oly OC, and crapped all over the other two ceremonies IMO.
