Packing and sorting is such a pain

Well I have to move out of my house by 16th jan before i go to my mums for a few weeks.

I am getting removal companies in in the next couple of weeks to quote for shipping and storage.

So I'm starting to pack - yes i know it will all have to be repacked but if i can sort out what is going into boxes (that we dont need now) and chuck the rubbish (the bin and recycling bin is already full and I've only done the living room!) I'm hoping it will be easier to visual just how much is coming with us.

Anyway just thought i would say how tedious it is... any tips to get it done pronto?

Yep.... get a big skip and put everything in it.....

what ever you do decide to take with you... make DETAILED lists and for gods sake don't loose the paperwork on your way over... like we did... If you think packing is endless, imagine looking through 60 boxes to find a single item.... everytime you need something...

Got to agree with you. Its a nightmare. I thought I would tackle the playroom, but just stood there for 10 mins not knowing what to do then shut the door again. Every time I try to sort it, the kids get stuff out and play with it. ARRRRGGGGGG. Feel it might well all end up at the tip

Hi, I have been trying for ages to sort out the kids toys only for them to keep getting them out of the black bin bags and saying thats mine! I have now deceided to do the sorting out and disposing when they are at school. They are clever little monkeys "oh I do play with that all time" with big tears!

I just keep reminding myself what it was like to be a child and how upset I would have been!

Still Father Christmas is on his way so more heartache what do you buy? that you will take with you.

I have Crown coming to quote on Thursday morning - now everything seems so much more urgent.

I just dont know where to start - the living room is just about done but am running out of boxes quickly!

Darent even look at kids stuff yet! Son has a huge collection of fossils - not sure how AQIS will like that

I know exactly what you mean - hubby going next Sunday I go the week after - suppose to start clearing the house out from today - but I just keep walking into a room looking round then walking back out again! Don't know where to start - any ideas anyone? Suppose to be doing stuff now but just decided to sneak upstairs and go on the computer instead!!!!

Can't believe how many boxes of books I've found - and hubby not even gone in the loft yet
I must make a start - back at work tomorrow today was suppose to be a day off for sorting things out!!!!!
Will keep you informed how i'm doing or not - good luck with your sorting. Can't believe I'm going in two weeks starting to get jittery now but I'm sure it will be worth it in the end.

Jan have you got rid of all the stuff you arent taking?

I am debating on whether to get a skip or not... or whether a million trips to the tip will do it! I guess if i get a skip it will be a lot quicker and my car wont get all grubbied up (yard majorly needs clearing)

Got rid of sum of the stuff we're not taking we hired a skip but now just got sort out all the bits of personal stuff we're taking with us - can't believe just how much we've collected over the years. We're not taking any big bits with us - have sold the furniture we don't want and leaving the rest in the house - we've managed to sell to a first time buyer who doesn't have anything so that worked out really well.
I think the answer to it is just be really ruthless and try not to get too sentimental about it all!
Oh well time for lunch now must really make a start after then. Watch this space

We packed ours in cardboard boxes (well taped obviously) and plastic storage boxes with lids (lids cable tied) and we presumed it would all have to be re-packed too, but it didn't. The only thing they re-packed was a guitar! Saved loads of money :)

Make sure you make a list.. Ours read like

ROOM - (living room or whatever) ....BOX NO - (001 / 002 / 003 etc) .....CONTENTS - (here we didnt go too mad on detail..just wrote 'kids toys' etc) and that was it.
We kept a copy for our reference and gave one to Pickfords. Jobs a good 'un :)

Good luck :)

ps... We printed out BOX NO stickers and stuck them on each side of our boxes / cartons...and also to be mega safe we stuck a few labels on with our contact address / phone number here too. We've yet to see if its worked though as our stuff (hopefully) arrives 9th December!

Well have finally got myself moving at last - it's quite therapuetic sorting it all out - just have to be strong and throw anything not useful. Have used freedom shipping for our stuff they dropped everything off even down to bubble wrap and brown tape and lists for all the boxes. They drop off the boxes and collect when suitable for you - the girls were really helpful over the telephone. Oh well nearly time for tea now - but at least I've started now - only 13 days to go!!!!!
