OMG U CALL THAT BACON!?
Chr*st on a bike! I am NOT a big meat eater but the OH and I enjoy a nice bacon buttie when we're feeling a bit 'porky' aka when we're eating naughtily. WTF is going on with the bacon in this country!? The first lot we bought we looked at it upon opening and wondered 'is this stuff cooked?!' a mate of mine's hubby who arrived at a similar time to us actually licked the bacon to see if it was cooked, much to his disgust, it wasn't! Now I'm no expert on meat but I do know my bacon, so can someone enlighten me, are the pigs just weird over here, or have the butchers not got a clue lol

You really have to shop around Jen and get yourself a good butcher, the bacon you find in the supermarkets are not a good substitute - try getting yourself a gammon joint at xmas :frown:

Re: OMG U CALL THAT BACON!?
I know exactly what you mean, it seriously is disgusting...I don't know for sure why it is so different but i do have a theory.
I believe that UK butchers pump the bacon full of some kind of brine giving it that wet floppy feel to it. Where as in oz, they don't as it is more dry and has a harder texture to it. So in effect you would think you are getting better quality bacon in oz, but my god, it doesn't taste right! |

Plenty of fat and makes a half decent sarnie. |
