Speaking of bizzare laws, grade 11 prom, formal whatever on friday night. 2 hours in one of the schools biggest dealers is caught with bag of mull, pipe, anyhow, hes searched and told if he gives the bag and pipe to the security staff they dont call police. Erm, so security guards get big stash of dope for free, job done

He hasn't been convicted. The police allegations are unproven. He's on bail. Bail is not a punitive process. He doesn't have to be home by midnight, just not in licensed premises after midnight.

Does that help your understanding?

It's a common condition of bail.

Why don't you actually make a point and then maybe it can be understood?

Not that bizarre, and definitely not law. Sometimes private schools, like other organisations, prefer to deal with incidents "in house" and not have it on the public record. It seems that if it becomes public knowledge, it may tarnish the image of the school and scare away paying parents.

I understand you hon.

What's to stop him infecting people before midnight? As a condition of bail it seems pretty useless to me.
A 6pm deadline would make more sense as he would be less likely to pick women up before then.

He should be allowed to come and go as he pleases up until he is convicted...

BUT he should be made to wear a T-Shirt saying "Don't Shag Me I've got AIDS"

It's a matter of how our society works that sometimes people get away with criminal acts when in other parts of society that behaviour is instantly criminalised.

It's a matter of general record and of note by sociologists and penologists that some conduct in the lower orders is often considered criminal, but when it happens amongst the privileged is just 'high spirits' - to be swept away for the time being.

Personally I don't have an issue with it (the school thing). You get one chance. Didn't we all use to get away with all sorts of crap.

As for the 12am curfew. The law is an ass.

Its quite interesting, of course in an incident like that, just about every kid in the school knows about it, within hours. All they have learnt is that if you have a large amount of weed, pipe etc all that will happen to you is a few days suspension. Basically you can get away with it and get a few days extra hols to boot. Great message to send to a couple of thousand teens no wonder there is so much drugs in high school.

Both of your examples show the PC/liberal mumbo jumbo attitude to crime and punishment that is prevalent in much of the western world now - especially in Australia and the UK.
