Norman Tebbit

Now thats not the sort of heading you expect on a post is it! But this is an issue i have been sort of grappling with for years now. I know i am showing my age here but back in April 1990 Mr Tebbit talked about the 'cricket test' which was basically this, immigrants should show their loyalty for the country into which they have settled. Does it make you less of an Australian if you shout for england at the cricket? Were you jumping for joy when Germany gave the aussie team a football lesson?
What are your thoughts on this? Me i just back the Kiwis on everything and hope that everyone beats the South Africans at everything! Easy cop out that one.

Well, I did piss myself laughing at England drawing with the USA and Algeria in the world cup.

But then again, I was born in Scotland.:p

I do hope Australia beat Ghana tonight, just to keep the interest alive.

Sounds about right. I cant explain how 2nd Gen Migrants manage to follow their parents teams though. Probably a direct result of the 1st Gen Migrant refusing to assimilate. Maybe sporting teams are part of that cycle because it's definitely a highly charged emotional Issue.

Englands Lackluster performance hasn't worried me as much as Aussies Lackluster performance. I have two valid reasons for that though. Firstly I want the A league to flourish as I love going to live games and anything that could damage the precarious A-League, or the new Football renaissance that seems to happening in Aus presently, worries the crap out of me.

Whereas Englands performance could damage the Premier League and I'm all for the break up of that.....Just to explain... because of the lack of money in the lower divisions.... plus youngsters not getting a chance to develop as they are bought up by the bigger clubs to languish in their players pools..... Actually not even bigger clubs... just clubs with more TV money.

England's mediocre performances and Australia's sub standard attempts have given me quite a few laughs during this world cup.
I generally want both to lose but Australia more so.
I'm hoping England's next match is another draw and that the Aussies are soundly thrashed.

It's not the heading that's suprising, it's the fact that anybody would give any credence to what that tory twat says or has said!!
