Really pleased for you! Was concerned that the army wouldn't want you with your pins in your arms. This sounds like a great job.

You managed to cope with the accelerated hairdressing course and you love technical stuff and computers - I have no doubt you'll cope with the training.

Yippeeeeeee yay.........Fantastic news Paul. I am grinning from ear to ear. OH has done the telecommunications thing (in the UK) and says it's a breeze compared to the electrical, so there's no reason why you shouldn't sail through this. Infact, I expect you to.

This time next year you'll own a cruiser and will have to name it:-"coitus non circum," "Ne conjugare nobiscum," or "ad astra per aspera."

Thanks Gill, yeah from what I see yesterday there is VERY little physical stuff to do. Well, I did have to carry 4 phones up 2 flights of stairs! ...

I think a Sparkie IS one of the lesser trades in the physicality dept, especially compared to Brickies and say Glaziers! ... but yeah am sure it will still have it's moments.

I just Googled your quotes ...

Oh! ...

Well bring a laptop with a wireless connection and you can sit outside my house, or come in, and have as much as you like. I've currently got 8gb spare just to catch up on my usage this month.

Shall I get the kettle on?

Paul, will you have to wait for a qualifying period before you book the time off for surgery? I know some jobs have a 3 month trial period and time off might go against you.

I needed my ankle fixed up but was too nervous to do it for that very reason in England and have just got used to it now.

My day went very well and at the end of it I was took to the owner of the company to 'talk business'.

Not only did I get the job, the company have matched my current earnings ($10k more than spoke of at interview) ...

Soooo, decent job with REAL prospects, decent pay to start with, company car, phone allowance, laptop and all tools provided, and what at first glance seems like a decent bunch of fellow employee's ...

The ONLY prob I guess is the pressure is on! They originally was after a school leaver to train up, and me being 'mature' they're happy to pay me more than the crap wage they'd pay a teen, but in turn I HAVE to perform and pick it all up in 3 - 6 months, normally they'd give a year!

I have to do a Telstra course asap so I can legally play about with their wiring, and will have HEAPS of homework to get up to scratch, but I've craved a technical job for a long time so will be happy to throw 100% at it fa sure! ... this IS my chance!!!

If all goes well in a year or so I could be earning an above average wage, and have VERY good job prospects! ...

CAN LIFE GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS???

For now it can't! ... I am ecstatic! ...
Great stuff Paul......so pleased for you guys

You know I reckon Paul's emigration story would make a bloody good and inspirational read.

He has proved one or two people wrong and so deserves all the luck.

I don't think anything will be happening in the next 3 months to be honest, and if so it can wait! I've waited 5 years now so another 6 months or so won't hurt. It was bit of a pain with physical jobs, but should be ok in this one for a while ...

Yeah I keep meaning to do one. Someone else said to do it so I'll sort it when I have the time.
