New Australian Visa Label

Hi All,

I have seen my collegues getting shinny with picture/photograph UK Visa. Also Canadian visa label is very shinny with photograph and same applies to US Visa. Why in this world Australian visa seems so dull without photograph? Why dont Australia design a new better looking visa label with photo?

Thanks,

Thanks,

Because this is Australia. It's not UK, Canada or US.

And reallly, what does pick-up hockey have to do with visa labels? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinny

and if they redesigned it you can bet it would be much more expensive to get than it already is.

Why would an Australian visa need a photograph when it is affixed to your passport?

You cannot rely on passport photo.Normally photograph on the passport is 2 or 5 or 9 years old. You dont update photograph on passport regulalrly specially children change a lot after passport photo. Photograph on visa means how you look like when the visa was issued.

I am going to contact my local MP equivalent to get this matter addressed. It worked with driving licenses

So when you are on a PR visa how often are you going to get a new photo put on that? Five years after issue it will be as out of date as your passport photo is!

It can be an extra precaution as most of the Chineese looks alike. Passport is 10 years validity (1PR visa validity then RRV).After all PR visa is valid for 5 years and then the applicant needs a RRV i.e. a new photo).

You only need a RRV if you leave Aus and wish to re-enter. I know people who have been here 40 years, they no longer have a valid passport, and will need that and a RRV if they ever want to travel - but in 40 years they haven't, so they have only the visa they were granted in the 1960s. The PR visa is valid for life - ie permanently - if you stay in Australia.

As for your comment about the Chinese, I will treat that with the disdain it deserves.

If chinese passport photos are useless because "most of the Chineese looks alike" how is having photos on visas going to help?
