My main point was "especially India and China". I followed up with a comment on Indian tourists because there has been a noticeable increase in the last 12-18 months. I'm not sure if there's been a noticeable increase in Chinese tourism. It's hard to tell because there are a lot of Chinese looking Australians and because there's always been a significant number of Chinese looking tourists in the past.

I made no comment on the potential of either country.

I think we're missing the point of the new ads. They're not just about tourism but about creating 'Brand Australia' (I kid ye not).

The idea is that if your selling holidays here or flogging Lindemans wine or Ugg boots or RM Williams shirts or uni degrees you can use an image of Aus which will play well across the world.

Eg Australia - beating the crap out of Indians since 1980.

Although I agree with the sentiment and detest this type of marketing bollox; I'm not going to kid myself that talking about 'Brand [insert country here]' is a uniquely Australian thing.

Brand UK, UK plc, Team GB, Brand Australia, Australia Inc, etc... it's all the same bollox created by a bunch of overpaid marketing tossers.
